Newsom: Say, there seem to be an awful lot of illegal migrants around here now

A funny thing happened after the midterm elections were finally over. People working in corporate media actually began to notice that the Biden border crisis is completely out of control. CBS and NBC aired reports on the subject (albeit briefly) and I saw some coverage on CNN. But it’s not just the network and cable news mainstays that suddenly seemed to become aware of the rising human tide washing over our southern border. Elected Democrats have started talking about it as well. This week, California Governor Gavin Newsom stunned me by issuing a warning during a press conference. He said that the immigration system in his state was reaching a “breaking point,” and that Joe Biden’s move to lift Title 42 next week would make the situation unsustainable. (Free Beacon)

California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D.) this week warned that California would experience an unsustainable flow of illegal immigrants once President Joe Biden reverses the Trump administration’s border policy.

“The fact is, what we’ve got right now is not working and is about to break in a post-42 world unless we take some responsibility and ownership,” the governor told ABC News Monday.

Newsom’s comments allude to the Biden administration’s plan to next week lift Title 42, a Trump-era policy that allows law enforcement to quickly expel illegal immigrants.

Ya think?

Newsom went on to criticize the White House’s decision to send “planes and buses to California full of migrants.” Prior to the election, Newsom only complained about the governors of Texas and Arizona sending busloads of migrants around the country. But now he’s pointing the finger at Joe Biden.

This was probably inevitable and you’ll likely be seeing more Democrats and mainstream media figures talking about it now. The situation has become too desperate for even the most partisan open borders advocates to ignore. Last weekend’s surge at the border (which is still going on today) saw an average of nearly 2,500 Border Patrol migrant encounters per day.

This isn’t just happening in California, of course. The immigration enforcement officials in El Paso have long since been completely overwhelmed. The Border Patrol has been releasing illegal aliens into the interior of the country by the thousands for months now. And that doesn’t even take into account the tens of thousands of “gotaways” who were very likely drug mules or human traffickers in most cases. (Those are the ones who don’t tend to immediately “surrender” to the Border Patrol and request asylum.)

Sadly, it’s probably too late to do anything substantive about this emergency at this point. Joe Biden rolled out the welcome mat as soon as he was inaugurated and millions of illegal migrants have taken him up on his invitation. The invasion of our country has been underway ever since. Even if Biden turned around today and ordered the completion of the southern border wall and a massive expansion of border control agents and immigration court staffing, it would be another year before we could put a sizable dent in these numbers.

The intentional opening of our southern border is rightly being described as one of the greatest crimes ever committed against our country and the results will reshape the nation in a negative way for the next generation. I fully agree with what the Lt. Governor of Texas recently said. This should be seen as an impeachable offense and action needs to be taken along those lines, even if it means we wind up being stuck with Kamala Harris as president. (A shudder-inducing thought, to be sure.)
