Al Gore movies have won more Oscars than most documentary filmmakers have.
One.
His 2006 global warming screed, "An Inconvenient Truth," won Best Documentary honors at that year's Academy Awards ceremony. Was that PowerPoint affair truly the year's best non-fiction movie? Or did the industry's progressive bona fides seal the deal?
Need we even ask? It's why former President Barack Obama has two Grammy awards and three Emmys. Ex-First Lady Michelle Obama has two Grammys.
How many Emmys does the industry's most popular, powerful showrunner, Taylor Sheridan have? Remember, Sheridan speaks to Red State USA with his gritty dramas, often highlighting cultural moments ignored by other screenwriters.
Zero. Sheridan's shows have practically kept Paramount+ alive in recent years, drawing the biggest names in Hollywood to his TV stable.
What about the sudden rush to throw trophies at Stephen Colbert as he exited late-night TV, to the far left? Was it something he said? Oh, yes it was.
It's impossible to miss the pattern.
Andrew Klavan sure saw it. The author mentioned once more on his most recent podcast episode how becoming an openly conservative author influenced the number of honors his work received.
Long story short? The awards dried up. His excellent writing didn't change, though.
It's becoming a joke, really, one with no end in sight. It's why the pro-Antifa "One Battle After Another" walked away with Best Picture honors last year.
Which brings us to the Divine Miss M. Bette Midler is a genuine superstar, an artist who has thrived on stage, on records and via the big screen. It's silly to argue otherwise.
And it's obvious that her over-the-top hatred of all things Trump hasn't been her finest hour. She's not alone there (cough, cough Robert De Niro).
Does anyone think Midler's update of Woody Guthrie's "All You Fascists (Bound to Lose)" was award worthy? The folks behind the 2026 Woody Guthrie Prize sure did. The group gave her its award October 16, allowing her to warble the song anew. She also painted herself as a warrior in the battle against Hitler 2.0.
These are hard and terrible times. A war is being waged against us, and we are all being drafted. Whether the letter arrives or not. Thank you for noticing that I showed up for duty.
Is Midler more stunning than brave? It's hard to tell, but she's clearly in the trenches taking enemy fire. Or at least she's cosplaying a soldier's life. It's not Stolen Valor, but it's gross all the same.
Plus, her timing was pretty lousy. Sen. Elissa Slotkin, a Michigan Democrat, just promised to legally harass so many Trump officials that it would deter younger Americans from joining his administration. We're still waiting for Midler to warble a tune or two about the "student uprising" in France and those mostly peaceful infernos.
Here's betting Woody himself might pick up his guitar after those threats, assuming he unclogged his ears and understood a real fascist from a make-believe one.
