Biden's Ukraine policy is a cluster, alright

Well, hey – this news is fun.

Of course, according to POTATUS and the geniuses who control him, these are new and improved versions of the BANNED MUNITIONS (Lucky thing we didn’t sign that treaty, huh?), which hardly hurt anybody inadvertently.

The Biden administration plans to provide Ukrainian troops controversial weapons known as “cluster munitions,” a battle tool that has been banned by more than 100 nations and lambasted by human rights groups for indiscriminately killing civilians, according to U.S. officials.

The weapons — meant for Ukraine to attack dug-in Russian forces — are modern versions that leave behind fewer “duds” that could kill civilians, U.S. officials said. The decision is significant because Ukraine has pleaded for the U.S.-made weapons for months, and appears to have made little progress in its long-awaited counteroffensive. The use of cluster munitions increases the potential for civilian casualties.

The term “dud” is kind of misleading in terms of CBU bomblets. It’s only a “dud” because it didn’t explode on contact. It’s STILL an explosive, as many children have horrifically found out when they’ve picked up the pretty metal ball, or kicked it. Or a villager stumbled over one hidden by water or dirt in a ditch. If they lived to tell the tale, they’re missing body parts, horribly maimed or disfigured.

But “fewer” duds, so no worries, no worries. POTATUS is as concerned about Ukrainian tots playing with the friendly looking bomblets as he is about hanging that 7th stocking for his granddaughter.

He could give a Schlitz less.

Besides, Zelensky says they need them, and when that buff dude man in the skin-tight wooly pully flexes calls, why, Biden goes weak in the knees. Whips it out – the checkbook – and doesn’t care who squawks at him.

…The official, who was not authorized to speak publicly, said Ukraine has an urgent need for the weapons to deny Russians access to routes and destroy their armor vehicles as they try to advance or retreat. Ukraine launched its counteroffensive last month and has made incremental advances.

It’s even better if the doe-eyed smooth talking freedom fighter has sworn they’ll only use them on the bad guys where they’re supposed to.

Pinkie swear.

Woof. That does it. Send him clusters of clusters.

But wait – hold up.

Wasn’t that, like, a war crime to YOUR ADMINISTRATION a *checks watch* short-term memory challenged 17 months ago?

Right NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg?

…”We have seen the use of cluster bombs and we have seen reports of use of other types of weapons which would be in violation of international law,” he told reporters in Brussels.

War crime“?

OH. 1999, the former Yugoslavia.

…Use of Cluster Bombs
27. Cluster bombs were used by NATO forces during the bombing campaign….

Well, so, suddenly now that the U.S. is all about cluster bombs, NATO’s sitting this one out, doing some CYA with a sort of “Go ask your mother” answer after taking an integrity suppressant.

Nato ‘does not have a position’ on cluster bombs, says Jens Stoltenberg
Nato’s leader is being asked about the wisdom of sending cluster munitions to Ukraine. He has said that “Nato does not have a position on them” as some allies have signed up to prohibit their use and some haven’t. “This will be for governments to decide, not for Nato to decide.”

All these sterling hypocrites – we are surrounded by them.

This gives you an idea of what CBUs can do on a residential street (this was in Nagorno-Karabakh). There’s the obvious explosions from the bomblets, but what you can’t see is the tiny fragments of shrapnel flying everywhere, magnified by the fact there are hundred to thousands of bomblets, depending on the number of CBUs used and the type.

Vicious, which of course war is, but golly Nell – there are tons of other options.

The buildings took the brunt of this attack. Plus, there are bound to be unexploded ones rolling around under trees and in hallways of the buildings they hit.

It also makes you wonder what not-so-great news the White House tactical geniuses are trying to smother.

…The “widely banned weapons,” reported the Times, are “known to cause grievous injury to civilians, especially children…. cluster munitions, which rain down smaller bombs that scatter across the landscape. The weapons, which are meant to explode when they hit the ground, have caused thousands of deaths and injuries, often among children who have picked up duds that failed to go off in the initial attacks.”

Democrats, including the Biden Administration, have long opposed cluster bombs. “When, five days into the war, Jen Psaki, then the White House press secretary, was asked about the Russian use of unconventional weapons, including cluster munitions, she said: ‘We have seen the reports. If that were true, it would potentially be a war crime.’”

But apparently not in Ukraine’s hands. Because now they need them. And thus the bombs point to a larger problem. The war effort may not be going as well as the Biden administration had insisted. Noted the Times, “Ukraine’s counteroffensive has been met with stiffer-than-expected Russian defenses” and so now the “Pentagon had determined that cluster munitions would be useful… against dug-in Russian positions.”

Ukraine is starting to get a Vietnam or Afghanistan feel to it. Our leaders say it’s a must-win war but it’s not obvious why. They say we are close to victory, but also say the Russians are so dug in that we must now use a weapon that the people championing the war just a few days ago opposed.

Is there anything that Biden and his neo-Democons will say “no” to Zelensky about?

…However, providing some types of lethal U.S. and European military assistance to Ukraine would be escalatory, counterproductive, and only further increase the dangers to civilians caught in combat zones and those who will, someday, return to their cities, towns, and farms.

Like Laos, between ’69 and ’72 or so. Like Laos, now.

In 2016, Obama pledged $90M to help try clean up what was still left after 40 plus years.

If that guy’s VP had half a brain left that wasn’t mush, he’d remember that.

But, with POTATUS, everything he touches is a sleazy, hypocritical, smarmy criminal enterprise cluster in itself.

Asking for a spark of conscience or decency is a smirk too far and a problem with possible WWIII implications is out of the question entirely.
