President Biden is considering issuing an executive order that will make it look like he is working on securing the southern border. His idea of securing the border may differ from yours.
Throughout Biden's presidency, he has passed the buck to Congress on the issue of border security. He issued a slew of executive orders on his first day in office to undo all the measures in place that secured the border during the Trump administration. Biden's mission in office has been to prove he is the not-Trump president. Mission accomplished, Joe.
Though Biden has repeatedly said that the border can be secured only with congressional action and that he does not have the power to close the border, now he is considering executive action. What changed? The general election in November is coming and Biden's poll numbers are really bad. There is no happy-talking his way out of poll numbers.
Biden says the poll numbers are wrong. He is convinced that he is a successful president, even historically so. His presidency is historic, but not in the way Biden thinks. Joe Biden makes Jimmy Carter look competent.
Biden used executive orders to open the southern border and he can issue executive orders to close it. He knows that. He just doesn't want to do it. The Biden border crisis is intentional.
The poll numbers no longer allow Biden to be derelict in his duty to protect the homeland. Without borders, we do not have a sovereign country.
In February a bipartisan border security bill failed to pass in the Senate. The reason was it didn't secure the border. The number of illegal aliens that would be allowed to enter the country was 5,000 per day before the border would be shut down. That is absurd. The goal has to be zero. Reach high, not low, when setting goals. Zero will not happen but it is a goal. 5,000 per day is not acceptable.
In the failed legislation, the DHS secretary (Mayorkas) would have the discretionary authority to carry out deportations but it would make deportations mandatory when the number of illegal aliens surpassed 5,000 per day over one week. The bill also allowed the suspension of that authority two weeks after the seven-day average falls to 75% of those levels. In other words, 4,999 per day for a week was ok.
Why 5,000? What about 10,000? What about 3,000? Where did that number come from in the negotiations?
Hiden Biden is coming out now in favor of executive action in hopes of gaining support from independent voters. Democrats are ok with an open border but independent voters are not. This election is a security election. American families do not feel safe in their communities and an open border contributes to that.
Biden's idea of compromise is to set the bar at 4,000 per day via an executive order. That is what is being reported in the New York Post.
A federal government source confirmed to The Post that an executive order to limit entries was coming, though it was unclear when it would be announced.
In April, southwestern border authorities stopped an average of 5,990 migrants per day, according to US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) — a figure which does not include so-called “gotaways” who escaped detection and arrest.
Traditionally, the number of border crossings dips in the summer months, with migrants less inclined to try and enter the US illegally in the intense heat. However, last year, the average number of border crossers encountered per day rose from 4,819 in June to 5,919 in July to 7,515 in August to 8,991 in September.
The US Border Patrol currently has more than 10,000 migrants in custody nationwide, according to internal CBP data exclusively obtained by The Post.
The economy, inflation, and illegal immigration are the top issues for voters this cycle. Biden and his fellow travelers in the Democrat Party are failing the American public badly in all those categories. The only good polling for Biden is on abortion and climate. Neither of those two issues is at the top of the list of concerns for most voters. Biden is indebted to the progressive left, while most of the country is middle-right.
