AOC Facing Death Threats From the Anti-Israel Left

AOC's campaign office in the Bronx was vandalized yesterday with the familiar spray of red paint favored by anti-Israel leftists.

As you can see, the sign reads "AOC Funds Genocide in Gaza." Her campaign manager added this:

In the past few days, we also have received multiple threats on the Congresswoman’s life and we are treating this seriously with our security partners to make sure she, our staff, and volunteers are safe.

So what is all this about? Isn't AOC one of the most anti-Israel members of congress? Yes, she is but it turns out she voted against defunding Israel's Iron Dome.

Ocasio-Cortez has repeatedly criticized Israel’s military campaign in Gaza, including labelling it a “genocide.” But on Friday, she voted against an amendment to the defense spending bill offered by Georgia Republican Rep. Marjorie Taylor-Green that would have stripped funding for Israel’s missile defense systems. Ocasio-Cortez ultimately voted against the defense spending bill.

Her vote on the amendment provoked pushback from progressives. In a statement following the vote, the Democratic Socialists of America condemned her opposition to the amendment, which they view as support for Israel’s “eliminationist campaign against the Palestinian people.”

“The fact that Representative Ocasio-Cortez acknowledges that Israel is carrying out this genocide makes her support for military aid all the more disappointing and incongruous,” the statement said.

AOC released a statement in response to the critics which correctly pointed out that her vote had nothing to do with offensive weapons only with defensive ones that protect civilians from rockets.

What it does do is cut off defensive Iron Dome capacities while allowing the actual bombs killing Palestinians to continue.

I have long stated that I do not believe that adding to the death count of innocent victims to this war is constructive to its end. That is a simple and clear difference of opinion that has long been established.

I remain focused on cutting the flow of US munitions that are being used to perpetuate the genocide in Gaza.

But that explanation wasn't enough for anti-Israel extremists. For example:

Her decision to essentially support funding for Iron Dome is a reversal from a similar decision she made back in 2021 when she initially voted no on Iron Dome funding and then changed her vote to "present."

Ocasio-Cortez could be seen weeping on the floor of Congress Thursday after casting her vote. She was one of 11 representatives, including the other members of “the Squad” of progressives, who did not vote to support the $1 billion in Iron Dome funding; 420 representatives voted for the bill.

In a letter to her constituents in New York that she posted to Twitter Friday, Ocasio-Cortez said she was inclined to vote “no” at first because she opposes giving “unconditional” aid to Israel while “doing nothing to address or raise the persistent human rights abuses against the Palestinian people.” She did not explain what caused her to switch her vote to “present.”...

“Yes, I wept,” Ocasio-Cortez said in the statement. “I wept at the complete lack of care for the human beings that are impacted by these decisions. I wept at an institution choosing a path of maximum volatility and minimum consideration for its own political convenience. And I wept at the complete lack of regard I often feel our party has for its most vulnerable and endangered members and communities.”

In any case, it's a bit odd that AOC didn't just go along with the other members of the squad and vote to defund Iron Dome. They had no hope of winning so why not make a statement that would please her far left fans?

Ocasio-Cortez voted on Friday against an amendment to the defense appropriations bill that would have slashed $500 million for Israel’s Iron Dome missile defense program. The amendment was proposed by Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, a far-right Georgia Republican who has previously advocated against U.S. funding to Israel, and separately by Rep. Ilhan Omar, a Minnesota Democrat who is one of the fiercest critics of Israel in Congress.

The amendment was struck down by a vote of 422-6. In addition to Omar and Greene, Democrats Al Green of Texas, Rashida Tlaib of Michigan and Summer Lee of Pennsylvania also supported it, as well as Thomas Massie, a Kentucky Republican who opposes all foreign aid.

So she decided not to vote with Rep. Omar and Rep. Tlaib even though doing so wouldn't have mattered at all. I guess in her own limited way she was drawing a line she didn't want to cross. And now she's getting death threats for it.

The far left are not very forgiving on these issues. I wouldn't be surprised if this one pointless vote continues to dog her for a while among her fellow extremists.
