Last week, someone set fire to a Christian pregnancy center in Eggertsville, New York. Graffiti was sprayed on the building and the motives of the arsonists didn’t require any help from Sherlock Holmes to figure out. Now, not even a week later, another pregnancy center in Gresham, Oregon was set ablaze. The Gresham Pregnancy Resource Center had its fire and smoke detection alarms triggered at approximately 3:00 am on Friday. Fortunately, the fire department was able to respond swiftly and contain the blaze mostly to one room inside the facility, but other parts of the structure suffered water damage and windows were broken. And yet again, graffiti was sprayed on the outside of the Christian facility. The ATF is describing the fire as “suspicious.” Ya think? (Axios)
The Seattle field division of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) said Friday it was helping authorities in Oregon investigate a fire that was “suspicious in nature” at a pregnancy center run by a Christian organization.
Why it matters: The fire at the Gresham, Oregon facility came after a similar anti-abortion facility in Eggertsville, New York, was damaged in an alleged arson attack earlier this week. That incident is also currently under investigation, according to the Buffalo News…
First Image, the anti-abortion organization that runs the Gresham Pregnancy Resource Center, said in a post on its website that a fire broke out at the facility at about 3 a.m. on Friday.
The spin that Axios puts on this story is similar to what we’re seeing all across the liberal media landscape. If you read the full coverage, you’ll note that the phrase “pro-life” appears nowhere in the text. Instead, the pregnancy center is repeatedly described as being operated by “an anti-abortion organization.” The article also points out that the government is “preparing for a potential surge in political violence,” because of the anticipated Supreme Court ruling in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization.
First of all, these attacks are not “political violence.” They are acts of arson and destruction. And pinning them immediately to the Dobbs decision before the arson investigation is even fully underway only adds to the sense that the media is blaming the Supreme Court for this instead of the people starting the fires.
It’s also worth pointing out the difference between the targets of pro-abortion and pro-life advocates. We can’t condone violence against persons or property under any circumstances. Yet the end goal for those opposed to abortion is to prevent someone from preemptively ending the life of a baby, no matter which side of the debate you stand on. An attack on a pregnancy center is seeking to stop women who wish to have a baby from being able to have one. How insane has the world gotten these days if someone actually has to point this out?
These are the kinds of talking points that allow congressional Democrats and liberal media figures to point at threats to the lives of Supreme Court justices or attacks on Christian pregnancy centers as ‘no big deal.’ Violence and terrorism get a pass if such acts are perceived as being done “for the right cause.” And you can rest assured that if the authorities manage to identify and arrest the arsonists who attacked the Gresham Pregnancy Resource Center, there will be those in the House Progressive Caucus who will hail them as heroes.
But don’t you dare refer to the arsonists as “domestic terrorists.” Never mind the fact that the FBI’s definition of domestic terrorism describes it as “criminal acts committed by individuals and/or groups to further ideological goals.” These arsonists are heroes. The world is going crazy and this train doesn’t appear to be slowing down at all.
