The Republican Party cannot take that chance, because that’s not where the America First Voters are. Voting for a Globalist RINO like Tom Emmer would be a tragic mistake!”

[Trump waited until after the nomination to make his position known. Why? He might have helped out Byron Donalds earlier with an endorsement, or at least kept him in the race a while longer. If Emmer does get to the floor for a vote, however, this might convince House Democrats to sit out so as to cut off any chance of the GOP nominating a Trump endorsee. A Speaker nominee needs a majority of those in the quorum casting votes for the nominees, so any ‘present’ votes lowers the threshold of victory. If 30 Democrats vote ‘present’ in a quorum of 432 or don’t cast any vote, for instance, then all it takes is 202 rather than 217 to win. If 50 Dems vote ‘present’ or not at all, then it drops to 192, and so on. You’d better believe Hakeem Jeffries will be thinking hard about that option, especially after this. — Ed]
