The first major poll in the wake of the Smith indictment was released on Monday, and the results were damning for Trump, as might be expected. Per the latest ABC News-Ipsos poll, 61% of those surveyed believe the federal charges against Trump are very or somewhat serious; just 28% disagree. Overall, Trump’s favorability stands at just 31%.

But here’s the interesting plot twist in the same poll: Just 31% view Joe Biden favorably, too.

Perhaps what this tells us is that while a solid majority think Trump acted recklessly, even criminally, they also see Biden as weaponizing the justice system in order to damage a presidential rival.

So, the question is: Why and how is this the rematch for the presidency?
