Lance Armstrong settles $1.56 million case with newspaper

Disgraced U.S. cyclist Lance Armstrong has agreed a settlement payout with the British newspaper that first reported the likely role of performance-enhancing drugs in his Tour de France, its publishers said Sunday.

The Sunday Times reported Sunday that it had reached a “mutually acceptable final resolution” to its legal bid to recover about $1.56 million from the 41-year-old sportsman.

Armstrong successfully sued the newspaper for libel over a 2004 article that suggested he had cheated, eventually winning more than $400,000. …
