Remember the "your momma" fights in school? Your momma so fat that when she sits around the house, she sits AROUND the house. Your momma so ugly that Avon stopped calling. The insults were intended to press just far enough to force one's opponent to cry or storm off in a huff while narrowly avoiding a punch in the mouth.
The insults were not intended to be real, however. Unfortunately for Abdul El-Sayed, he decided to go after Mike Rogers' record in counterterrorism and accuse him of snooping on innocent Americans. That's when Rogers shifted the debate to explain exactly who his work and policies targeted, and suddenly your momma became extremely relevant:

That's really just an appetizer, however. Rogers showed up prepared for this debate, while El-Sayed seemed mainly armed with your momma-style lines. Rogers did a deep dive into El-Sayed's financing and connections, and laid them out in a devastating sequence:

The most impactful exchange in this debate, however, didn't have any direct connection to El-Sayed or his momma. The moderator asked an easy question, and El-Sayed refused to answer it. "Who do you think is a bigger threat to the United States – Iran or Israel"? El-Sayed called it a "ridiculous question," and then proceeded to imply that Israel was a bigger threat for convincing us to go to war with Iran:

This answer is sheer idiocy, or just a flat-out lie. Iran has waged war on the United States since November 1979, and it has a body count of Americans in the thousands, both directly and through its proxies Hezbollah and militias in Iraq. The regime in Tehran has chanted "death to America" for forty-seven years, and it spent more than two decades on a nuclear-weapons program to achieve that ambition. Hezbollah ran drugs into the US from Venezuela for the last couple of decades, thanks to feckless American administrations that didn't want to confront that threat. Israel is not only an ally, it is also a vital intelligence partner in a region with major American interests and where practically every other state is either a competitor or outright hostile to the US.
My friend and colleague Hugh Hewitt lays out El-Sayed's radical take in brief:
Iran has killed a thousand Americans since 1979. It has repeatedly fired at our ships and bases, and 18 service members have been killed and hundreds wounded in this year’s battles. Iran has fired a ballistic missile at Diego Garcia. It has exported terrorism around the world. If it was a normal country there would be a chance at stability in the region.
El-Sayed is either ignorant of these facts or so radical as to refuse to admit them. Either way he should never be close to the United States Senate. The good news is that Mike Rogers clobbered El-Sayed in last night’s debate.
You can take an Islamist apologist out of a DSA rally, but you can’t take the DSA rally out of the Islamist apologist.
That answer from El-Sayed was so bad that it achieved the near-impossible outcome of losing CNN. Their panel could not believe that El-Sayed had no better answer, or perhaps that El-Sayed couldn't even bother to lie long enough to get past the debate:

The debate last night exposed El-Sayed for what he is: a radical being astroturfed by George Soros and billionaire progressives into the mainstream of the Democrat Party. He's not the only one, but he's the boldest of the model so far, and perhaps one of the least prepared for exposure outside of Texas and James Talarico. Michigan voters finally got a look at the real El-Sayed and the real Democrat Party under control of the radicals.
