According to Bennie Thompson, a stupid riot at the Capitol amounted to an armed insurrection against the Republic and all that is holy. Also according to Bennie Thompson, the terrorist attack that killed a National Guard soldier and severely wounded another is ... um ... er ...
An "unfortunate accident"? Say what?
The House Democrat didn't just frame it that way once, either. When Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem rebuked Thompson over that attempt to downplay the murder, Thompson then referred to it as an "unfortunate incident." That led to several fiery exchanges in the hearing, with Thompson sputtering over his congressional privilege (via PJ Media):
🚨VILE: Dem Rep. Bennie Thompson just referred to the terrorist attack against two National Guardsmen in DC as an "unfortunate accident."

Apparently, as Matt Margolis notes, Thompson has never met a hole he thought he couldn't fix with even more digging. At one point, Thompson threatened Noem with a perjury referral and then turned to National Counter-Terrorism Center director Joseph Kent. That, as Matt notes, was "a big mistake":
Frustrated by Noem’s competence, Thompson turned his ire toward Kent. He sarcastically asked, "It's obvious you don't want to answer the question. Mr. Kent, do you want a shot at it?"
That was a mistake.
Kent delivered a scathing indictment of the Biden administration’s vetting theater. He told Thompson, "The individual was vetted to serve as a soldier in Afghanistan, and that vetting standard was used by the Biden administration as a ruse to bring him here."
Thompson tried to shout him down as well, but the damage was done.
The only 'unfortunate accident' at hand in this exchange was Thompson's continued presence in Congress, as Mike Gallagher quipped shortly after this clip went viral.
This, by the way, is what Thompson wants to spin as an "unfortunate accident":
Jeanine Pirro, the U.S. attorney in Washington, said the suspect, Rahmanullah Lakanwal, drove from Washington state to launch an “ambush-style” attack with a .357 Smith & Wesson revolver.
Video reviewed by investigators showed the assailant “came around the corner” and immediately started firing at the troops, according to Jeffery Carroll, an executive assistant police chief. Service members ran over and held down the shooter, who was taken into custody, he said. Authorities believe he was the only gunman.
What part of this does Thompson consider accidental?
What else does Thompson believe is an "unfortunate accident"? Here's a short list of potential "incidents":
- The accidental release of bombs over Pearl Harbor by the Japanese Air Circus on tour
- Pilot errors on 9/11
- Soviet tanks making a wrong turn in 1956 and ending up in Budapest
- The traffic accident in Dealey Plaza in November 1963 with a presidential motorcade
- The stain on the blue dress (IYKYK)
- A few drunks stumbling into the DNC headquarters at the Watergate
- Soviet tanks making a wrong turn again in 1968 and ending up in Prague (darn those Warsaw Pact road maps!)
Feel free to add more to this list. Our commenters have great imaginations, and I look forward to their creativity. Unfortunately, we can't look forward to any sort of integrity or value from Bennie Thompson, a despicable bully and corruptocrat who can't even give the men and women of the armed forces the respect and consideration due them in the aftermath of this terror attack. Shame on Thompson, and shame on the Democrat Party that is desperately attempting to spin this murder as anything else but what it actually is.
