Are Democrats “playing” Republicans with the indictment of Donald Trump? “The poobahs on the Left think that getting Trump the nomination will ensure a Biden re-election,” Adam Baldwin argues in this episode, discussing last week’s column from Ann Coulter. They are banking on provoking a “ridiculous knee-jerk response” to rally around Trump and derail a real primary fight, and Adam knows this — because it initially worked on him and a lot of other people. So what should Republicans do for 2024?

Welcome back to my VIP video series “The Amiable Skeptics,” featuring my friend Adam Baldwin! Adam is well-known for his long and storied Hollywood career, starting with My Bodyguard, and especially for his roles in Full Metal Jacket, Firefly, its film sequel Serenity, Chuck, and The Last Ship.
Those supporting Donald Trump argue, with some justification, that the Left will destroy anyone that the GOP nominations. They argue that it “doesn’t really matter who you nominate, because whoever you nominate is going to get the same treatment that Donald Trump is getting right now,” I explain. “Maybe it’s better to have Donald Trump who’s already got all the slings and arrows in his hide,” the argument goes, “have him stand up to it again as an example and to expose the media democrat regime for what it is.”
That’s a dead end, Adam believes. “He’s a known quantity and they’ve got him under indictment. They’re gonna get him under indictment in Georgia. They’re gonna, go after him with the special counsel, and who knows what else they’ve got lurking out there? People are going to be reluctant,” Adam continues, “not the loyal people that have been that have given ten fifteen million dollars in the last week or so to Trump’s campaign, but those that stand on the sidelines waiting to see how things unfold.
“DeSantis doesn’t have that disadvantage,” Adam argues. “He’s not gonna be indicted before election day on anything. He’s gonna be accused of crap in the media. But you know,” he concludes, “that’s par for the course.”
We discuss much more in this episode, including speculation on whether Democrats might be deliberately provoking a cultish response around Trump. Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy gets a mention as well, and the two of us talk about DeSantis’ recent strategy in his book-tour proto-campaign and how it might woo MAGA voters in the end. We also take note that DeSantis appears to be building a ground game at the same time that Trump’s getting bogged down in legal defense issues.
