Is this the Ron DeSantis moment? Or will he defer to Donald Trump — and should he? In today’s episode of The Amiable Skeptics, Adam Baldwin and I tackle the big question as we leave the midterms behind and move into the 2024 cycle. Initially, Adam is definitely skeptical about a DeSantis 2024 run. “On the merits, DeSantis has the goods,” Adam says, “but Trump does too, policy-wise.” Furthermore, Adam worries that Floridians will “feel like they’re being left in the lurch or betrayed by DeSantis if he chooses to run for president.”

Welcome back to my VIP video series “The Amiable Skeptics,” featuring my friend Adam Baldwin! Adam is well-known for his long and storied Hollywood career, starting with My Bodyguard, and especially for his roles in Full Metal Jacket, Firefly, its film sequel Serenity, Chuck, and The Last Ship.
However, Adam also argues that DeSantis is “smart enough and articulate enough” to maneuver past Trump in the upcoming cycle. After I argued that DeSantis was peaking, Adam decided that this was as good a time as any to have the debate on whether the party would attempt a restoration or look to the future — but still wasn’t sold on the idea that DeSantis would want that fight. “He should come out ahead of Trump and get it started,” Adam said of DeSantis. “I would just look forward to the debates and I think that it would be good for America.”
And what may matter more in 2024, Adam warns, is “counteract[ing] the Chinese government’s TikTok.” Republicans need better stagecraft and better social-media penetration, Adam advises, and can’t afford to be left behind again.
