The RNC hits Barack Obama at his weak point: change. Yes, Obama has run his campaign on change, but even his ardent supporters never thought that applied to Obama’s entire platform — and especially on Iraq. Barack Obama won the nomination by running to Hillary Clinton’s left on Iraq, but now it appears he wants to outflank John McCain to the right.
Pretty effective, I think. It points out that Obama’s “assessment” got the surge wrong, and that the security situation has greatly improved thanks to a strategy he opposed. Had Obama just admitted he got it wrong and that the surge worked, this would have been a welcome step forward. Instead, as this ad shows, he’s basically lying about his previous positions and expects us to simply forget that if Obama had prevailed instead of McCain on military strategy, we would have surrendered to the terrorists we have all but defeated.
What does that say about Obama’s ability as Commander in Chief? What does it say about his honesty now? The ad demands answers to those questions.
