Little Lord Piker and the Socialists' Schizophrenic Attitudes Toward Wealth

Officially, they despise wealth inequality as a matter of principle, and talk endlessly and quite ignorantly about the "working class," about which they know nothing because most of them have never worked a day in their lives outside some hobby "job." 

And the working class will actually get off their behinds to vote against them in disgust for obvious reasons. Imagine Hasan Piker, Francesca Hong, Zohran Mamdani, or Katie Wilson coming over to your barbecue. It boggles the mind. Hand them a Miller or a Coors beer, and wait for the lecture about microaggressions and craft brews. (For the record, I drink Miller because I am anything but a beer snob, unlike my wife.)

Not every DSA socialist is a trust fund kid or gets financial support from their parents in their 30s and 40s; many have well-paid jobs that require no manual labor and provide fantastic salaries. I'm not talking about the candidates, obviously. Being a socialist IS their job, and catering to the delusions of the young, wealthy, and faux-victimized is their gig.

I am focusing on Hasan Piker because he is The Voice of the dispossessed Left, and he makes high 7 figures for being a raving maniac who promotes Marx, Lenin, Stalin, Mao, and, of course, Mamdani and El-Sayed, who are more sophisticated versions updated for the modern audience. 

Mamdani and El-Sayed are themselves quite wealthy. Mamdani's family has a fancy compound in Uganda complete with protection by the Ugandan special forces when he is there, and El-Sayed has property and investments in Dubai and in Bangalore, India. 

None of these people is afraid to enjoy their wealth, although they are reluctant to acknowledge it for obvious reasons. And for the occasional socialist who isn't already rolling in the dough, there is a government-funded NGO which will be happy to throw some money your way as long as you spout the word "comrade" behind your 2026 surgical mask. 

Apparently, most people can't afford to be socialists. We work for a living and want to make more money doing so. Once you have more than enough, you can afford luxury beliefs, and if that socialized healthcare doesn't work out, there are private doctors who will happily take care of you for a nice fee.

You may have noticed that Piker, whom The New York Times went to great pains to normalize by handing over its Opinion Page to him several times, including to comment on Charlie Kirk's assassination, is now doing fashion shoots and appearing in suits on the campaign trail and even on his Twitch streams. 

You should look good as you shock your dog and scream for the blood of capitalists, you know. 

It all reeks of the old Soviet and current Chinese Communist arrogance of the elites who live in luxury as the interchangeable masses labor to make their lives comfortable. Designer suits and lots of DoorDash deliveries from high-end restaurants. 

Socialists don't hate wealth. They hate the wrong people having wealth. They believe that what makes one deserving is believing the right things, not satisfying some need that people are willing to pay to have. 

As usual, it is about power. It is about controlling others. And it is about enjoying the fruits of others' labor. 

They claim that capitalism is about that: stealing wealth. But in a fair, free market system without fraud or government putting its thumb on the scale, you can't get rich, at least not often, by ripping people off. You do so by satisfying the needs and desires of others—giving them something they want that they can't get for a lower price or by their own hands at a reasonable cost in time, money, and effort. 

Socialists want luxury handed to them because, in their own minds, they are the good people. Measuring economic worth by the economic value that people provide is so...gauche. Virtue should be rewarded, not economic value. 

Because they are all Godless communists, they don't understand that virtue is rewarded far more highly than by mere money, luxury, or power in the real world. They don't understand that for many people, family, friends, community, and self-respect, not to mention God's love, are far more important than a six- or seven-figure income and a nice trust fund. 

Few of us would change roles with these people if we had to be like them. We can imagine having their wealth, but not living their lives to get it. 

Barack Obama was famously a natty dresser, and AOC likes her designer clothes. Graham Platner cosplays an Oysterman, but it's clear that many of these socialists love their luxuries and their fine apartments or condos in expensive cities. 

Even Bernie Sanders, who is a slob, loves his extra houses and his book royalties. And he has never worked a day in his life outside government — even at the commune that threw him out for being lazy. 

It's all so predictable, and so tiresome.
