What In the World? 2.7 Million Signatures Asking for Leniency for Florida Truck Killer

Change

Huh?

I guess being an illegal alien means you can kill people and face no consequences. At least that seems to be the thinking behind a petition asking Governor Ron DeSantis to be lenient to Harjinder Singh, the illegal alien truck driver who killed 3 innocents because he was in a hurry to make an illegal U-turn on a highway.

Everything about this case is infuriating. Harjinder Singh should never have been in the United States; he should never have been issued a Commercial Driver's License, as he held one from two different states--California and Washington. He should never have been hired by any company to drive. He should definitely not be given leniency.

Yet here we are. In just a couple of days, nearly 3 million people have signed a petition to support him.

What is shocking to me is that all the people who made this happen will get off scot-free. Not Singh--we can be certain that Governor DeSantis will show no mercy--but Singh was just the tip of a very long spear. The people who set policies that let Singh into the country, those who tested his English proficiency, found it wanting, and gave him a CDL anyway, and the companies that have hired him over the years. All of them are as much at fault as Singh himself.

UPDATE: Harjinder Singh, an illegal alien from India who killed three innocent people, FAILED an English Language Proficiency assessment. Singh provided correct responses to just 2 of 12 verbal questions and only accurately identifying 1 of 4 highway traffic signs.

And yet, Gavin Newsom’s sanctuary California gave this illegal alien who cannot speak English a Commercial Drivers License to drive an 18-wheeler.

DHS will work with @USDOT to root out and prevent illegal aliens from obtaining these licenses from sanctuary jurisdictions that put American drivers and passengers in danger.

Some argue that this was a tragic accident — that is the premise of the petition. Strictly speaking, you could say that it is true--Singh didn't set out to kill anyone that day. But that misses the fact that he was recklessly indifferent to the lives of others, not only in his actions that day but throughout his time in the United States.

Singh has lived in the United States for 7 years, yet he hasn't learned the language--and he hasn't had to, even though his "job" required being able to read signs and follow directions. And why didn't he have to? Because the liberals keep repeating the same mantra about "refugees" and "migrants" just trying to get by. We are told that the rules don't apply to them because they are victims.

That's the sick logic that gets millions of people to rally behind MS-13 and Tren de Aragua members. Illegal aliens can do no wrong because they are victims. Toxic empathy.

And this is the result--we are here because of reckless indifference--and Singh's recklessness became everybody's problem because the left made it our problem.
