Democrat math: Abortion = Democracy

It is no exaggeration to say that Democrats have nothing going for them this election but for abortion.

Not that abortion moves many votes, especially in an environment where inflation, recession, skyrocketing crime, and world affairs are all conspiring to destroy Democrats’ standing with the voters.

But the pro-abortions voters the issue does move? They are all-in on abortion, including abortion until birth. Or even shortly after birth, with those darkened rooms where they deposit babies born during botched abortions.

Here in Minnesota almost every political ad is about abortion, save for those few Republican ads that make it on the air. Since Republicans can’t tap billionaires for unlimited political donations they are getting outspent on the air by a fair amount. That means we get to see Democrats warning us that unless we vote for them women will likely be forcibly impregnated and die in the process of childbirth.

Of course it isn’t women dying during childbirth that worries Democrats. It’s the possibility that babies might actually make it to term and grow up to be Republicans.

MSNBC is, of course, totally devoted to the idea that pro-life policies are almost as great a threat to Democracy as Donald Trump and the new-Nazis they imagine are are hiding behind every tree. Hence the enlightening “Morning Joe” discussion a tiny number of Americans were treated to this morning:

No abortion, no Democracy.

For as long as I have been a voter the Democrats and the Left have had a Handmaid’s Tale fetish. While they portray it as a dystopia of which we should be terrified, they keep on showing up around the country dressed in those creepy red robes and hats.

Maybe they think they are flattering? I thought liberals were into hoodies, masks, and Molotov cocktails. Go figure.

The relationship between abortion and democracy strikes me as rather bizarre, especially since not a single abortion law that has been or will be put into effect will have been done so without having gone through a democratic process. That was the whole point of the Dobbs decision, which repealed a non-democratically enforced Court mandate and sent the question of abortion laws back to state democratic processes, as it always should have been decided.

But a lot of Leftist women seem to equate being good mothers with killing children or something, so you get politicians such as Minnesota’s own Liz Boldon tweeting out gems like this:

She is a Democrat state legislator from the Rochester, MN area, and is running for the State Senate.

You know Rochester–the home of the Mayo Clinic. So she should know that abortion is healthcare, right? What kind of person thinks of being a mom as a burden, not a responsibility and a joy? I can certainly understand feeling burdened at times, but not calling taking care of one’s own children a tough job that nobody should have to do.

At least Liz doesn’t seem to think that she is prevented from participating in the democratic process by her status as a mom, so perhaps Lauren Leader was exaggerating a bit when she equated a pro-life society with being an authoritarian hellhole.

Lest you think I am being a bit tough on Lauren, know this: she compared the United States “moving backwards” on women’s rights to the theocratic regime in Iran.

Personally I think entrusting our democracy to people whose sense of proportion is so off is endangering our country far more than putting up serious moral issues such as at what point in a pregnancy you lose the right to kill a child to a vote.
