This past Monday, the temperatures in Berlin dipped to -7°C, which is a balmy 19° or so Fahrenheit. Needless to say, that's pretty damn cold.
Remember that big Green push to get everyone on electric heatpumps?
It was really unfortunate, because the lights and the heat for almost 30,000 households were still out after a weekend outage. That major event had knocked out the power to over 50,000 households and some 2000 businesses, many in some of the wealthiest neighborhoods in Berlin.
Now, anyone who has been reading my posts for the past couple of years knows Germany has its issues keeping the lights on, with spotty outages and near misses from time to time, but this wasn't one of those times. This, in the dead of winter, was a deliberate act of sabotage - homegrown terrorism - against the infrastructure of the city.
A fire was deliberately set to destroy the massive electrical cables that are part of a 'heat and electrical power station' near Berlin. As ghastly an act as it was, there has been little public press about it because it wasn't Islamic terrorists or those vile 'right-wing' types at long last unleashing the supposed hell the Left has been warning about.
None of the above.
It was a Leftist eco-terrorist group trying deliberately to murder people in the depths of an unforgiving winter by 'cutting the juice to the ruling class.'
Oh. Well, it seems the German authorities think that's cool, then.
An arson attack claimed by a left-wing extremist group has left tens of thousands of residents in Germany's capital without electricity in the dead of winter for several days. The Saturday morning arson attack on critical electricity infrastructure in southwest Berlin cut power to nearly 50,000 homes and businesses, and renewed scrutiny of a long-running sabotage campaign by the left-wing "Vulkangruppe."
The group claimed responsibility for the fire, which destroyed several high-voltage cables near the Lichterfelde heat and power station and triggered one of the most severe blackouts the capital has experienced in years.
According to Stromnetz Berlin, the operator of Berlin's electricity network, power was cut to as many as 45,000 households and more than 2,000 businesses across four districts in south Berlin.
The power outage also meant many homes lost heating and hot water as temperatures dropped well below freezing in Berlin.
...In a lengthy statement circulated online and called credible by police, the Vulkangruppe said it had deliberately targeted affluent neighborhoods, to "cut the juice to the ruling class."
MORE - The far-left extremists stated that the "society could no longer afford the wealthy and that these villa districts had to be paralyzed."

As with all things deviant and demented Leftards take aim at, the wealthy weren't the only ones who needed extra blankets, although the Vulcano group did apologise for the inconvenience they'd caused to those of lesser means. Power goes to many different places, and this station was no different.
Worthless and perfunctory 'sorry about that' aside, it quickly became a life-threatening emergency for many in the outage area.
...The impact of the attack quickly spread beyond the areas the group said it had intended to target. Hospitals, care homes for the elderly and high-rise building residents who rely on elevators were impacted. Cell phone networks failed in some districts and commuter rail services were disrupted. Police used loudspeakers mounted on patrol cars to inform residents, and some schools delayed reopening after the Christmas and New Year's holiday break.
The Berlin mayor, a typical weak-sister German politician named Kai Wagner, finally popped up to issue a statement after a full day. He chastised the terrorists, calling the situation a scathing 'unacceptable,' warned them they needed to behave themselves...
...Berlin Mayor Kai Wegner condemned the arson attack as an "absolutely unacceptable" act of terrorism. He warned that assaults on energy infrastructure endangered lives and placed enormous strain on the city's emergency services.
"These are not childish pranks, but rather professional criminals who attacked these power grids," Wegner said in an interview Monday with German public broadcaster RBB. "This is not just arson or sabotage. This is already terrorism. It was a left-wing extremist group that once again attacked our infrastructure and, in doing so, also endangered the lives of people, of elderly people who may need ventilators, of families with small children, and we now have to catch these perpetrators."
...and then just as quickly dropped back out of sight for a breather, so he wouldn't have to talk badly about the Left anymore.
...The culprits had no scruples about the fact that their target area included several care homes. Some vulnerable elderly people were evacuated to sports halls. Critics felt that Berlin Mayor Kai Wegner, from the conservative Christian Democratic Union, didn’t show much empathy or resolve. Initially, he had lamely condemned the incident as “unacceptable”, while not appearing in public for a whole day. When he finally turned up at one of the emergency shelters, Berliners vented their frustration. “What’s going on in this city?” one man demanded.
As we saw during the Texas outage of a few years ago, it's not just cold feet and shiny red noses - homes are destroyed in cold weather when the power goes out. I wonder if anyone told these families this was all for Gaia, and that the group hadn't meant to 'inconvenience' anyone, so sorry about that?

...The cause: a broken pumping system—wastewater must be pumped uphill from the lakeside homes. Sewage backed up through toilets for two days. Carpets and books were destroyed. Worse: the houses reek of sewage, with excrement floating in places. Residents must ventilate already freezing homes. The THW was called but had to leave—no power, no pumping. Now two Persians are handling it with a generator, while also expressing some “appreciation” for the flooded carpets.
At least someone was grateful for the clean-up call.
And quit yer bitchin' when the city offers to kind of take care of you.
🇩🇪🚨 Officials in Berlin initially told families and pensioners affected by the ongoing power and heating outage that they could stay in a hotel at a discounted rate of €70 a night.

...Many slammed the proposal, reminding the city-state government that it's spending nearly €1 billion of taxpayer cash a year on housing migrants who pay nothing.
The government has now backtracked and said it will fund the total hotel bill.
VURT DA FURK IN THIS CITY?
That's actually a legitimate question the mayor was hit with time and again.
For all the breast-beating and weeping over Alternativ for Germany (AfD) being the 'right-wing extremist' threat, they're actually normal, centrist to conservative citizens and quite well-behaved. The most anyone gets locked up for is mean Xweets and Facebook posts about fat German Green party members.
This particular group of eco terrorists, on the other hand, has been busy blowing things up or setting expensive, devastating, potentially lethal fires at industrial or infrastructure sites for over a decade - since 2011 at least - and no one has a clue about them.
The most amazing thing about the "Vulkan" group responsible for the devastating terror attack on Berlin that has denied power to tens of thousands of households in the middle of an arctic cold spell, is how German police know next to nothing about these leftoid freaks.

These…
...These lunatics have been sabotaging mostly electrical infrastructure around Berlin *since 2011* – including high profile attacks on the Tesla Gigafactory (2024), on electricity pylons causing a similar blackout (2025), and now the Teltow Canal power cables. Each time they issue these deranged 2k word-plus manifestos ranting and raving about the environment and evil rich people. And after all these attacks, just nothing – not a single member identified, nobody ever indicted or arrested, just nothing.
How is that possible?
Because Germans believe they have protecting Gaia as their goal and a crusade against fossil fuels and 'the wealthy' as their religion. It gives these lunatics some sort of an excuse in the European mind.
Call them and their gibberish manifestos, The Anti-Oligargles, and cut them a huss.
...It’s a fair question. Since 2011, arson attacks on critical infrastructure have increased in and around Berlin. The Volcano Group – named after the 2010 eruptions of the Icelandic Eyjafjallajökull volcano, which severely disrupted air travel for a time – alone has claimed responsibility for several major incidents. These have ranged from setting fire to a cable bridge in 2011, to severely disrupting public transport in Berlin, to cutting off power to the Tesla factory outside the capital in March 2024. In this case, too, several households and a hospital were affected.
Authorities admit they don’t know the exact number of incidents, nor the scale of the networks involved. Extremism expert Hendrik Hansen told the German media that this is because politics had focused “very one-sidedly on Right-wing extremism, thereby neglecting Islamism and Left-wing extremism”. He bemoaned that, in the capital in particular, “radical criticism of power” is commonplace, which shelters extremists, and that this was also a message exuded by “some political parties in Berlin”.
The politically active part of the public plays a role, too. It is telling that this time last year, tens of thousands of Berliners took to the streets to protest the rise of Alternative für Deutschland (AfD). Yet, even though the current power cut has been called a “terror attack” by the authorities and domestic intelligence, and was claimed by an extremist group on the Left, it doesn’t move activists and politicians in the same way.
German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, who is the leader of the same Christian Democrat party (CDU) that the stellar Berlin mayor represents, has had nothing - that's NOTHING, nada, ZIP - to say about the attack.
German chancellor Merz doesn't address the terror attack on Berlin infrastructure by leftist Antifa group"Vulkangruppe", that operates for 14 years now with no efforts to bring them to justice. When even the Spanish are calling you out for your willful blindness and hypocrisy toward a particular terrorist ideology, you have a problem. It's especially pointed when you check out what the weather is like at the moment in the footage of Berlin.

...A far-left terrorist group set fire to an electrical facility in Berlin and left 50,000 people without power in the middle of winter. In that country, they throw you in jail if you cuss out a politician on social media, priorities.
In England, the Vulkan group is simply 'activists' and, I suppose, merely a tad overenthusiastic. Like a ladies' gardening club gone a little bonkers over a camellia.
Well, who doesn't get excited every now and then about a bonfire, right?
If this had been a far-right terrorist attack it would be the number one news story in the world. But it’s the far-left, which the BBC don’t even mention in their headline https://t.co/KJrFMU9yel pic.twitter.com/o9usRxFRBJ

No reason to call anyone ugly names or cast rude aspersions when they're only doing what their heart tells them to do.
And the innerwebs cops had better not catch you saying anything about it, either, capisci?
You know what happened to that last guy with his Xweet about the fat German chick - just sayin'.
Beege ADDS: Holy SMOKES - I had to include this report from the German outlet, the appropriately named Blackout News.
Berlin's disaster relief: 97-year-old on a cot – photos with politicians instead of a tour
The power outage in southwest Berlin is far more than just a technical crisis following an attack. It's a litmus test for Berlin's disaster preparedness. And this litmus test exposes what the Court of Auditors has already described: a lack of coordination, unclear responsibilities, and inadequate preparation ( apollo-news: January 5, 2026 ). In practice, this means: coldness, improvisation – and a state that too often only becomes visible when it needs to be photographed for media effect, but the expected help, as in the case of a 97-year-old woman in need of care, largely fails to materialize ( berliner-zeitung: January 4, 2026 ).
97-Year-Old on a cot - how Berlin deals with people in time of need
The case of a 97-year-old woman in need of care is not a minor detail. It is the symbol of this crisis. An elderly woman in need of care ends up on a cot in a gymnasium after the power outage.
The family only learned of it later. The son recounts that his mother had barely eaten or drunk anything, and her condition had deteriorated. This isn't just "inconvenient." This is a situation in which a functioning system should immediately raise the alarm: prioritizing care needs, ensuring support, informing relatives, and organizing alternatives. This chain of events broke. And with it, it broke at its most vulnerable point: with people who cannot protect themselves.
The photo shoot at the camp bed – and the silence behind it
Then came the scene that angered many: Governing Mayor Kai Wegner and Interior Senator Iris Spranger stood in the gymnasium by the 97-year-old woman's cot and posed for photographs – an image that sparked outrage on social media. Not because political visits are inherently wrong, but because the symbolism was revealing: A show of closeness was staged while fundamental questions remained unanswered. For, right there at the heart of the scandal, both officials reportedly had no explanation for why the family hadn't been contacted. That is the true moment of embarrassment. When the top brass of the Senate stand by the bedside but cannot say who made the decision, who was informed, who is responsible – then that is not a communication problem. That is a real-time lack of leadership.
Or to put it another way: Berlin gets the photo. Berlin doesn't get the answer.
On his latest blog entry, eugyppius has a photo of the bridge which supports the cables that run to the power station, and says they were attacked with 'pyrotechnic charges.'
...Early Saturday morning, lunatic eco-terrorists from the so-called “Volcano Group” attacked these cables with pyrotechnic charges, cutting off power to 45,000 households and thousands of commercial customers in the Zehlendorf, Nikolassee, Lichterfelde and Wannsee neighbourhoods of Berlin. The attack came at the start of an arctic coldsnap and unusually low, freezing temperatures. Despite these dire conditions, authorities plead that they cannot fully restore power to many customers until Thursday – five days after the attack.
Also, there are some questions.
...Here, however, I want to ask how this was allowed to happen in the first place. It looks for all the world like authorities have allowed the eco-terrorists responsible for this assault on Berlin’s power grid to operate with impunity for years and years. I want to ask how it is that our aggressive domestic intelligence agencies, which have resources to spy on tens of thousands of alleged “right-wing extremists,” have so little curiosity about the saboteurs of the Volcano Group and claim to know basically nothing about them despite the years of destruction they’ve wrought. I want to ask why, when authorities did stumble upon probable Volcano Group saboteurs a few years ago, Berlin judges were so quick to let them go.
Honest answers to those would really be something, I'm afraid.
