There's nothing like watching an entire, supposedly advanced, industrialized Western state commit economic suicide in real time in a determined effort to return to the 1920s or before.
But that's sure what it looks like Germany is bound to do, come hell or high water —or, God forbid, the intervention of someone with common sense.
The lefty loon climate cultists running the country are making sure there will be nothing left to work with for that mythical crusader attempting, not to resurrect the industrial glory that once was post-war Deutschland, but merely to reestablish a 21st-century standard of living. You know - affordable, reliable electricity.
That's only possible should the coalition junta in power slip up enough to allow such a sea-change, and they've been pretty devious in taking out and blocking the populist opposition so far. The chances of rescue are dimming fast.
Nothing is more illustrative of the state of Germany's slow-motion collapse than this enormously sad video from this weekend, of the planned destruction of the two cooling towers which once served the nuclear reactors at Bavaria's Gundremmingen Nuclear Power Plant.
Down the silent giants came, in a ballet of boom, buckle, and rubble.
'...keeping them running might have been the better decision...'
Of the three units at Gundremmingen - A, B, and C - A had shut down over a fatal accident and local objections in 1977, while Unit B was shut down in the hysteria following the Fukushima wipeout (tsunamis being an ever-present danger in Bavaria). Unit C, however, remained in operation and became a victim of the German nuclear phase-out, being shut down on New Year's Eve 2021, along with two other nuclear plants elsewhere in the country. As of March 2022, Unit C was still fully capable of being restarted.
Apparently, being green is more important than being employed, being warm, and having the lights on to the Germans in power.
And for as clever as they are, it's a crying shame for the German people's sake that German Greens can't do any #mathz except that which they fabricate to push their agenda. Had they attempted to do some unbiased figuring, they might have seen that nuclear was the answer to Germany's climate ills, not the villain.
“According to an analysis by PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), if Germany had kept its nuclear fleet operational, 94% of its power generation in 2024 could have been emission-free, nearly eliminating fossil fuel-based generation.” https://t.co/2hxJDNPL3G https://t.co/zPThRO1fvX

But it's hard to admit the thing you're working so diligently to destroy is the very thing that could be your salvation.
Every narrative needs a bogeyman - nuclear is Green Kryptonite, be they Europeans or the California variety
...Yes, the green nuclear-bashers did a thorough job. For a long time, society managed to keep these eccentrics, these dreamers with their sunflower charm and their eco-socialist utopia of a deindustrialized nation, in check.
Even the Chernobyl disaster of 1986 could not harm German nuclear power. Always technically state-of-the-art, a safe provider of baseload power in a hard-working nation, it was part of the economic foundation and reliably delivered around 30 percent of gross electricity production by the turn of the millennium.
And Chernobyl, well, that was the Soviet Union. That was communism. Back then, Germans still understood that such a system could only produce poverty and decay. Disasters like Chernobyl were the logical consequence of ideological delusion. Complex technology belongs in the hands of more complex, capitalist societies.
So you don't bother mentioning the part about it being the best choice as the stable, reliable, no-emissions part of the plan
...With the nuclear shutdown, the actual share of emission-free electricity generation in 2024 was only 61%, sourced from renewables, while the remaining 39% came from thermal power plants, reflecting a significant dependence on coal and natural gas.
Although Germany’s renewable energy expansion has reduced CO₂ emissions in its electricity mix by 37%, maintaining nuclear power this improvement would have been much more significant, up to 50 additional percentage points - which would add up to an 88% reduction in the intensity of emissions.
As a result, despite having 61% renewable generation, Germany’s electricity-related emissions remain much higher than countries with lower renewable shares but active nuclear fleets, such as France, Belgium, and Spain.
Which Green party leader and, at that time, Vice Chancellor Robert Habeck knew when they hid the results of an energy survey proving that keeping the nuclear plants open would reduce CO2 emissions by 2530M tons, a number four and half times greater and far less expensive (as the nuclear plants were already in operation) than Merkel's EnergieWende was going to cost and provide.
The government also ran roughshod over the objections of the German people, who'd done a 180 and wanted the nukes to keep on glowin'. Not that what the people want ever matters to German politicians once they're in power.
...The government of Angela Merkel had initially planned to complete the nuclear shutdown by 2022. However, the war in Ukraine and the resulting energy crisis forced Berlin to postpone the closure. The last three nuclear plants, Isar 2 in Bavaria, Neckarwestheim 2 in Baden-Württemberg, and Emsland in Lower Saxony, were finally disconnected on April 16, 2023.
...Judging by reactions on NiUS’s Telegram channel under the October 25 demolition post, most Germans responded negatively. Of several hundred reactions, only four were positive, reflecting the ongoing unpopularity of the decision. Public opposition has existed from the start.
A YouGov poll commissioned by dpa two years ago showed that nearly two-thirds of Germans opposed closing the remaining nuclear power plants. Thirty-two percent favored extending their operation for a limited period, while 33 percent supported an indefinite extension. Only 26 percent supported immediately shutting down the remaining reactors.
And now here they are.
The self-inflicted implosion of German industry is breathtaking. And this during good times. Most Germans don’t understand what will happen to their economy and jobs during next global recession. It will be brutal and shake the fundaments of German society

To replace this lost nuclear capability, the German government has big plans to build?
Natural gas plants.
What does Germany NOT HAVE?
Natural gas.
Progressive progress = reverse logic. They are all bundled up in coats - and complaining about global warming. https://t.co/l7b33UnwAC
