Man. I guess it goes without saying that I wouldn't be an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), Border Patrol (CBP), or any Department of Homeland Security (DHS) agent for love nor money. It takes a certain hearty, dedicated soul to do that work in the best of circumstances, and God bless them.
But they might as well have been dropped in 1990s Bosnia for all that's going on in Chicago right now.
There's now constant surveillance, but not on illegals, although there are thousands of claims of illegal activities.
No. The state, locals, city, and media have teamed up to surveil and report on any ICE, DHS, etc., actions or agents, and act if they feel justified in impeding them in the performance of their legal duties.
In the video below, someone with a camera is getting a shot of the agent's vehicle license plate. The agent tells him to go ahead, as they swap plates out every day.
Now, was that a tactical error? Probably, but I can also see where the agent and his compadres are up to their eyeballs with the BS.
The fellow whose mug is in the video is the Illinois Secretary of State, a tool named Alexi Giannoulias. Is he making an official IL state video to caution residents about interfering with federal agents?
No.
He's announcing a tip line for residents to call if they see any federal agents changing out license plates on their vehicles.
The IL SoS is basically calling in a dog pack on the feds.
🚨 No one is above the law — not even ICE agents.

I’m making it clear: tampering with or removing license plates is illegal in Illinois — and it will not be tolerated.

ICE agents are being repeatedly subjected to all manner of 'I'm not impeding anything. What's your name and your badge number?' interrogatories.
Why Alderman Rosanna Rodriguez would follow ICE Agents around is anyone’s guess. If she put this much effort into fighting gangs in her ward it might actually be a nice place to live. pic.twitter.com/x01k96E0RT

This holds them up just long enough for the neighborhood to empty onto the streets, courtesy of Facebook alerts, Bluesky, etc., escalating the situation wherever they're trying to operate. Not everyone is on board with the tactics, but unfortunately, the ones most willing to rumble are.
Not in Black Chicago. We are on the side of @ICEgov we asked for this help and white liberals are trying to get it taken away. Why won’t you people leave us alone?

They're setting videos of locals ramming ICE vehicles to music now. Makes it a sexy thang to do.
Sex is great. BUT have you seen the video of the car in Chicago ramming into an ICE truck and ramming it off the road yet?! pic.twitter.com/yiWtXzsHAE

Everyone's going to want to try it, no?
To their credit, the Illinois State Police have stepped up manfully to defend the besieged ICE holding facility in the Chicago suburb of Broadview. Their reinforcement has been especially crucial since a judge ordered the additional fencing to be taken down. The feds had originally put it around the perimeter, and with it gone, it's essentially exposing the entire building to attack.

Sadly for the anti-ICE narrative, these are not innocent local nannies and pool cleaners who were scooped up by mistake and are now cruelly being held there.
These are the criminals Governor Pritzker and violent rioters want released onto Illinois streets.

Besides breathlessly covering every teargas canister that hits the street but neglecting the rocks thrown that precipitate the tear gas, the local media is doing the research that the anti-government forces need to hamstring whatever local law enforcement support was still available to the feds.
Despite Illinois Sanctuary Laws, More Than a Dozen County Sheriffs Have Contracts to Hold People in ICE Custody
As federal immigration agents continue daily raids across Chicago and its suburbs, at least 17 sheriff’s offices across Illinois were found to have contracts on the books to detain people on behalf of Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
Those agreements are in apparent violation of the Illinois TRUST Act, signed in 2017 by then Gov. Bruce Rauner, and its amendment, the Illinois Way Forward Act, signed in 2021 by Gov. JB Pritzker.
The acts explicitly prohibit law enforcement agencies from entering into or renewing intergovernmental service agreements to house or detain individuals for federal civil immigration violations. Agencies with an existing contract were legally required to terminate it by Jan. 1, 2022.
“These contracts appear to contravene the Illinois TRUST Act and Way Forward Act,” said Jonathan Manes, senior counsel for the MacArthur Justice Center, who has been monitoring compliance of the act. “These appear to contemplate that ICE could house people in county jails.”
After counties were contacted by WTTW News, at least four of the 17 have said they will terminate their agreements with ICE.
I can't imagine how terrific a notoriously corrupt state like Illinois could have been had the media devoted and directed any of that effort toward unearthing and exposing official graft and crime.
I know - what am I sayin', right?
WAAH - WHAT HAPPENED TO THE WORST OF THE WORSTEST?
Concentrating on "the worst of the worst" was rejected by your progressive allies, Ben.

...Why don't you "investigate" why progressives sought to protect violent criminals?
Not only are energies expended by the media on quibbling over whether 'illegal' is a crime or breaking law enforcement bonds within the state, but they are also doggedly hunting down and shaming out-of-state agencies that have had long-standing contracts with ICE for immigration transports and such things.
Like a sheriff's department in Wisconsin.
SHAME SHAME SHAME
Dodge Co. Sheriff is transporting migrants to and from controversial suburban Chicago ICE facility
The Dodge County Sheriff’s Office in Wisconsin has been sending deputies into Illinois to transport migrants to and from the Immigration and Customs Enforcement detention facility in suburban Chicago at the center of the Trump administration’s clash with Illinois officials and activists.
For more than two decades, the Dodge County Sheriff’s Office has had a contract with the U.S. Marshal’s Service to hold federal detainees in the county jail. As part of that contract, which budget documents show provided the county with more than $6 million last year, the sheriff’s office regularly holds migrant detainees for ICE and transports federal detainees of all sorts.
“We house federal inmates/detainees as part of our agreement with the U.S. Marshal Service. We also transport to and from various facilities as part of our agreement. The federal government reimburses us for transportation. ICE is a rider on the agreement,” Sheriff Dale Schmidt told the Wisconsin Examiner in an email. “It is a simple, non-political arrangement we have had for 20+ years under all previous administrations during this contract (Including President Obama and President Biden).”
But critics say that this year the arrangement has become more political because of President Donald Trump’s increased immigration enforcement and ICE’s escalation of tactics in both its efforts to capture people without legal documentation, and its confrontations with protesters.
Suddenly, a twenty-year-old contract has become untenable - 'more political' - because of the Bad Orange Man enforcing immigration laws.
WHUT
But the dicey confrontations building over holding facilities are only going to get worse if they do not get a handle on the mob outside of the gates, thanks to a decision that came down last month and which has garnered little notice as of yet.
At the beginning of September, a ruling from the Board of Immigration Appeals said immigration judges can no longer consider bond for individuals in the country illegally.
Period.
A powerful Justice Department appeals panel has declared that anyone in deportation proceedings who entered the U.S. without legal authorization is not entitled to be considered for release on bond by an immigration judge.
The ruling upends a decadeslong understanding of federal law and could subject millions of immigrants to mandatory detention — a loss of liberty that advocates say could cause many to voluntarily leave the country even if they have meritorious cases to remain.
It also conflicts with recent federal court rulings finding the administration’s efforts to expand immigration detention violate the law and due process.
Previously, foreigners who entered illegally but could show they had been living in the U.S. for more than two years could ask an immigration judge for release on bond. But the decision Friday from the Board of Immigration Appeals concludes that detention is mandatory for anyone in deportation proceedings who entered the U.S. “without inspection.”
The ruling comes two months after the Trump administration altered its own interpretation of the law to insist on mandatory detention for immigrants apprehended within the United States — even if they had been present for decades. The change in policy has led to a flood of arrests of immigrants attending routine court proceedings and check-ins with federal authorities, despite previous decisions by immigration courts that they posed no danger or risk of fleeing.
More illegals will now be held in detention for longer before being deported. That's the rules.
ICE Deputy Director Madison Sheahan says her agents won't be stopping.
.@ICEDeputy poses the question: Why is Governor Pritzker so adamant in letting criminal illegal alien gang members, murders, rapists and other criminals run free in Chicago?

I imagine that Pritzker and the Bear of Little Brains know the clock on their tiny insurrection is ticking down, especially after Portland lost its anti-National Guard deployment ruse, so they have to whip up the foot soldiers while they can.
Naturally, it helps when the actual soldiers are seditious morons, too.
