I Can't Even Begin to Pretend I Understand What's Going on in Chicago

All I know is that Brandon Johnson is the Mayor of Crazytown and is doing his best to prove it with every whackjob word that comes out of his mouth.

He's been on a roll.

Now, to start, there's some sort of massive feud simmering between the Chicago Board of Education (snort) and Johnson over someone the mayor is trying to force to resign so he can put his own chosen toady in that spot. The entire board has threatened to resign in protest.

The entire Chicago Board of Education is expected to resign later this month, amid a dispute with Mayor Brandon Johnson over the fate of Chicago Public Schools CEO Pedro Martinez, Johnson's office and the board confirmed Friday afternoon.

In a joint statement, the mayor's office and the school board cited the upcoming shift from a board appointed entirely by the mayor to a partially elected board. Voters in November will choose 10 board members, while Johnson will appoint 10 others, as well as the board's president.

None of the seven current board members – board president Jianan Shi; and members Elizabeth Todd-Breland, Mariela Estrada, Mary Fahey Hughes, Rudy Lozano Jr., Michelle Morales and Tanya Woods; all of them appointed by Johnson last year – planned to continue serving on the hybrid board when it is seated in January.

"With the shift to a hybrid elected and appointed Board forthcoming, current Board members and Mayor Johnson understand that laying a strong foundation for the shift is necessary to serve the best interests of students and families in Chicago Public Schools," Johnson and the board said in a joint statement issued by the mayor's office. "With the unprecedented increase in Board membership, transitioning new members now will allow them time to orient and gain critical experience prior to welcoming additional elected and appointed members in 2025."

So it's a power struggle but one that Johnson's trying to manipulate to his advantage.

...The move would allow Johnson to replace the board with new members who would fire Martinez, who refused the mayor's request to step down from his position last month.

This works out beautifully for Johnson as he also wants to have a board he appointed to bless a $300M "payday" loan to cover demands that the Chicago Teachers' Union has made, union toady that he will always be.

People are losing their collective cookies across the city while Johnson ups the rhetoric.

...But Johnson insists naming new board members is what’s best, as CPS prepares to transition to a larger, partially-elected School Board in January.

I’m leading. I’m in charge,” Johnson said. “They elected a parent. I understand that anxiety, because I’m a parent.

“… The people that oppose my vision, they want to create more anxiety.”

...Alders also criticized Johnson’s efforts to take out a high-interest loan to pay for a new Chicago Teachers Union contract and other costs.

Taking out a $300 million high-interest payday loan is not a smart decision when CPS is already facing a massive deficit and the city an almost $1 billion deficit,” the letter, in part, said. “With COVID-relief funds having recently expired for CPS, it is crucial that CPS leaders keep the interests of taxpayers and our children top of mind as they make budget decisions that will impact the District for decades to come.”

I mean, wow. None of this seems remotely possible, but knowing how temperamently and intellectually challenged (the kindest way I can put it) Johnson is, to begin with, it's completely believable.

And then there are the press conferences.

YOWSAHS

He's a racist, demagoguing lunatic.

Who likes to travel on the broke city's dime, and don't you dare ask him about it.

MIND YOUR OWN BUSINESS, RACIST

When I put the brouhaha about the school board in the headlines this weekend, I added a Xweet that had a word of warning for folks who might live in Chicago and possibly had the wherewithal to leave.

GET THE HELL OUT IF YOU CAN, WHILE YOU CAN

This is terrifying.

This sumb**ch got rid of ShotSpotter, which the neighborhoods he claims thought it was "racist" wanted to keep desperately, and now even fewer cops?

Although, to be fair, no one in their right mind would want to be a Chicago cop to begin with. What a thankless, dangerous occupation, having to duck life-threatening incoming from both criminals and the city government with their activist boards.

Honest to God, though, Chicago. When you elect a sub-par performer who makes no bones about being barely functional...

...that you're even still standing should count as a minor miracle.

For how long, though?

After watching this massive fail, I couldn't begin to tell you what it takes for people to wake up. I know there are pockets of red resistance (and God bless them), but it's a big, BIG city with entrenched interests who have nothing to worry about but their own self-preservation.

That's aged rot and hard to scrape out.
