Suspect arrested for Bob Lee murder knew the tech millionaire

Holy crap. This is a whole different wrinkle on the crime.

The suspect is a tech consultant named Nima Momeni,

…Momeni was not immediately able to respond to a text message, and his voicemail box was full. He previously described himself as an information technology consultant and entrepreneur. His LinkedIn profile lists him as an “IT Consultant/Entrepreneur” at a company called Expand IT.

The report says Momeni and Bob Lee were in a car TOGETHER when the stabbing happened.

Oh, this is just ghastly.

…Multiple police sources have described the predawn knifing last week, which left the 43-year-old Lee dead in a deserted section of downtown San Francisco, as neither a robbery attempt nor a random attack.

Rather, Lee and Momeni were portrayed by police as being familiar with one another. In the wee hours of April 4, they were purportedly driving together through downtown San Francisco in a car registered to the suspect.

Some manner of confrontation allegedly commenced while both men were in the vehicle, and potentially continued after Lee exited the car. Police allege that Momeni stabbed Lee multiple times with a knife that was recovered not far from the spot on the 300 block of Main Street to which officers initially responded.

Momeni was booked this morning after cops arrested him at a residence in Emeryville, CA.

…The Chronicle, citing jail records, show that the 38-year-old Emeryville resident was booked on suspicion of murder at 9:19 AM on Thursday…

WELL DONE to the chronically overworked, understaffed, underappreciated San Francisco Police Department for cracking this one so quickly.

There are already the apologists trying to make hay out of this news that the victim knew his murderer, so take back what mean things you said about San Francisco’s crime rates.

WHUT

This doesn’t change a thing about what people feel about the city, nor what the city’s own statistics are saying. And it doesn’t matter one whit if the city has fewer murders than a similar city its size, if San Fran residents feel there are too many already when murders are also actually rising in number. Which *looks at the SFPD numbers* they ARE!

…Yet residents, over and over, tell a different story. In poll after poll, far more people than not say that crime is getting worse every year.

It’s no consolation to say San Francisco had three times as many murders in the 1970s,” Joel Engardio, San Francisco District 4 Supervisor, wrote on Twitter. “What matters is how people feel today and they don’t feel safe.”

Engardio is not the first to distinguish feelings about crime from trends in data. The fear of crime and its impact on mental health has been widely studied by psychologists and criminal justice researchers. Apart from being deeply unpleasant and stressful, fear of crime can drive individual lifestyle choices, like choosing to stay out of San Francisco’s already-suffering downtown, and policy changes, like instituting harsher punishments against people accused of crime.

What is it with these big city Democrats, like Adams in New York City, Breed here in San Fran, etc, all telling their citizens either ignore their lying eyes, or how much worse it is somewhere else? What? Like, who cares what’s happening in Albuquerque when I got mugged getting into my car this morning?

When you’re a statistic or you see a druggie/homeless statistic defecating on the sidewalk in front of you or you duck a gunshot statistic as it flies by, you don’t give a crap what’s happening someplace else because those folks have it “worse.”

People who live there are telling them loud and clear that they could care less about anywhere else – just fix the here-and-now that’s broken before it’s busted for good.

San Franciscans say they feel less safe than in more than 20 years, city survey shows

San Franciscans report feeling less safe and believe their local government is doing a worse job of providing services compared to any other point over more than two decades, according to a new survey conducted by the city released Thursday.

In results collected last year, residents graded the city with the lowest safety rating since 1996 at 3.3 out of 5, which the city grades as a C+. The data show that just 36% of residents report feeling safe walking at night, a drop from 53% in 2019, the last time the city conducted the survey.

Residents also gave the government the lowest rating since 2002 at 3.0 out of 5, or a grade of C. The city’s public safety and government ratings saw the biggest drops from 2019 of 16 ratings collected.

It’s not a random white tech mogul being murdered that did this to you, San Francisco.

Seven months before Whole Foods abruptly closed at Trinity Place in San Francisco’s troubled Mid-Market neighborhood, a man overdosed from fentanyl and methamphetamine and died in the grocery store’s bathroom, The Chronicle has learned.

The 30-year-old man died on the evening of Sept. 20, 2022, from the lethal combination of drugs, according to the San Francisco Medical Examiner’s office. Medics attempted unsuccessfully to revive him and he was declared dead at the scene, the police department said.

Take a good look around, Mayor Breed, Supervisor Peskin, and the rest of you in charge and in denial.

The tragic death of one white guy isn’t what’s making you look bad and it wasn’t an unfair Twitter dogpile, either.

That doesn’t begin to cover it.
