Mick Jagger Takes on Governor Landry - Landry Responds

The Rolling Stones are on tour in the United States. Lead man Mick Jagger is 80 years old now and still strutting across the stage. Unbelievable.

The band performed last Thursday in New Orleans during Jazz Fest. The New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival is an annual celebration of music that brings in all types of musicians, including big names to draw in crowds.

For whatever reason, Jagger took a swipe at Governor Jeff Landry when he finished "You Can't Always Get What You Want." He began talking about inclusion. Then he referenced the governor. “We want to include him too. Even if he wants to take us back to the Stone Age.”

Hmm. Chalk it up to an old man rambling. You know how they are. We have an 81-year-old in the White House who rambles on topics out of nowhere on a daily basis.

I'm not sure why he has it out for Landry. The 53-year-old Republican began his term as governor in January. Before he was elected governor, he was the state's attorney general. He is doing well by most accounts. His poll numbers are good as he comes to the end of his political honeymoon and his first 100 days in office.

Landry flipped the governor's office, replacing Democrat Governor John Bel Edwards. Edwards was the only Democrat governor in the Deep South. He was term-limited.

Maybe Mick just wanted to blow off a little steam over conservative politics. Landry is supported by Donald Trump. The governor supports a near-total ban on abortion, a prohibition on medical procedures for trans minors, and he is tough on crime.

Governor Landry took a shot back at Jagger.

“You can’t always get what you want,” he posted on X. “The only person who might remember the Stone Age is Mick Jagger. Love you buddy, you’re always welcome in Louisiana!”

Landry, 53, capped the post with #LoveMyCountryMusic.

Heh.

As I said, I'm not sure what caused the kerfuffle. The band was in Houston before New Orleans. Jagger was spotted around town in the days before the performance. They were rehearsing for the start of the tour and Jagger was photographed doing regular things. He was spotted at food trucks and visiting local establishments.

Jagger got a tour of NASA.

The venue for the tour's kick-off concert was sold out.

There were comparisons to him and Joe Biden on social media. Biden supporters trying to convince people that the two 80-year-old men are comparable was amusing. People age differently. Jagger may be a little slower and his voice may not be as strong as it once was but he performs like a champ. Joe Biden can't remember how to speak and has difficulty walking. Jagger's 80 is not Biden's 80. C'mon, man.

Jagger didn't say a word about Governor Abbott or Texas politics during his stay. Abbott is as conservative as Landry. He enjoyed his stay and soaked up the warm welcome. His attack on Landry was just odd.
