Top Celebrity Agent Fooled Around and Found Out

Kitty Laing, the head of comedy at talent agency United Agents, is in a mess of her own making. She reposted many offensive social media posts about the Hamas terrorist attack on Israel. Now she reaps the whirlwind.

Laing’s clients include comedians Katherine Ryan and Jamie Demetriou. Her other clients include Keira Knightley. The blowback was such a surprise to her that she briefly deleted her account on X. Then she returned to apologize, only to delete her account again. She describes her actions as a result of being naive. Or just another anti-Semitic liberal. YMMV.

United Agents has ordered an investigation into the matter. Her posts are quite vile, as published by the Daily Mail.

One post, which Laing reposted two days after the October 7 attack (which saw 1400 Israelis – mainly civilians – killed) read: ‘It feels like somehow the word settler has lost its meaning if it can be understood as “civilian”. Maybe a new phrase is needed like “settler paramilitary”.’

Another, about the bombing of the Al-Shifa hospital in Gaza, read: ‘Y’all were excited to repost the fake beheaded babies but these real babies now have mere hours left.’

Propaganda for Hamas doesn’t get any better than that, does it? Comedians began to speak out. One Oscar-nominated comedy writer, Lee Kern, spoke about a friend’s family who were forced to watch their children being murdered as Hamas filmed their reactions.

Exposing her tweets, he wrote: ‘Kitty has been on a wicked spree sharing hateful c**p promoting mockery of Jews murdered in terror attacks and conspiracies that currently Islamists and neo-Nazis are spreading online.’

He continued: ‘My friend was hospitalised this week. He collapsed from it all. His cousins were made to watch their own children murdered.

‘Hamas filmed their reactions & live streamed it. More [families] are kidnapped. But Kitty finds much to mock here.’

He added that ‘Kitty is the worst kind of person in this war’ and accused her of being ‘so ignorant that dead Jewish kids becomes a laugh.’

Another comic, Josh Howie, said, ‘Jew hate is rife in this industry. That Laing could proudly post this kind of bile to the entire entertainment industry and receive absolutely no pushback until now, tells you how deep the Jew hate has set.’

What the Israel-Hamas war is exposing is the rampant ignorance in the entertainment industry and the assumption that everyone shares their opinions. She is (was?) a top executive and was perfectly comfortable in posting anti-Israel posts on social media. Her apology is lame and she tries to excuse her unacceptable bigotry as being naive on social media.

‘I would like to unreservedly apologise for my tweets on social media surround the horrendous attacks in Israel on October 7.

‘With hindsight, I realise how naïve I have been and that much of the information on social media surround the conflict is unsubstantiated and hurtful. I should have taken time to consider this beforehand.’

Comedian Howe also slammed her apology.

‘As I’m blocked by Kitty Laing I’d just like to say in response: F*** You. I don’t want you to lose your job.

‘But do I think in the last 14 hours you’ve grappled at all with your hatred of Israelis and Jews, that your response is anything other than fear and self-interest? No.’

Laing has some work to do. United Agents is opening an investigation into the whole matter.

On Tuesday morning, United Agents said on its X account and in a statement obtained by The Hollywood Reporter: “We have been made aware of social media posts by one of our senior agents this morning. These are not the views of United Agents Ltd. We are conducting a full and thorough investigation into this immediately.”

Clearly, United Agents wants no part of the anti-Semitic ugliness on social media.

Kern is unapologetic in his blowback directed toward Laing. He’s not intimidated by a powerful agent.

“I’m an Oscar nominated writer who got there without an agent (yes that’s a flex) so I don’t give a f*** about deferring to agents. No one will stop me making a living. I’ll drive a cab if needed. So let me tell you about the disgrace of @kittylaing, Head of Comedy at @UnitedAgents,” Kern said in an X thread post.

Kern in his own reposts of Laing’s shares said the United Agency comedy head had depicted Israeli victims of war crimes as “legitimate” military targets.

Good for him. Enough is enough.

*** I corrected this post to change out “United Artists” to “United Agents.” I apologize for the mistake in the organization’s title. – Karen ***
