CBP delayed release of Biden border crisis numbers until Christmas weekend

CBP used to report their monthly numbers at the beginning of the next month. Then, as the Biden border crisis grew worse, the numbers came out in the middle of the next month. Finally, the border crisis is so bad that DHS wants to give as little attention to the news as possible and chooses to make its reports public by Friday news dumps at the end of the month. That is exactly what happened when they used a Friday news dump to report the November numbers on Christmas weekend.

November’s numbers are a disaster so it’s easy to see why they wanted to keep them quiet. There were 233,740 apprehensions in November 2022, compared to 174,845 in November 2021. The number in 2021 was a record back then and this year’s November number is a record now. Just laugh at DHS Secretary Mayorkas and anyone else in the administration who insists the border is closed and they have a plan to secure the border. It’s a joke. Unfortunately for the American taxpayer, the administration’s plan is to keep doing what they are doing and allow the southern border to be overwhelmed by migrants seeking asylum though most will not qualify for asylum. If the Biden border crisis is this bad now, imagine what the numbers will be when Title 42 ends.

Title 42 may or may not end today, depending on the Supreme Court’s decision. Last week, Chief Justice John Roberts issued a one-page order to stay the lifting of Title 42. He stopped the Biden administration from ending Title 42 last Tuesday. We don’t know when Title 42 will end. Justice Roberts may bring it before the entire Supreme Court and that could take a while. In the meantime, the administration is obligated to enforce Title 42. We are in limbo.

Two groups of illegal migrants rose sharply in November – Cubans and Nicaraguans.

“Individuals from Mexico and northern Central America accounted for just 30% of unique encounters in November, a significant drop from the 53% they represented a year ago, as more migrants arrive from a variety of other countries, including Cuba and Nicaragua,” said CBP Acting Commissioner Troy Miller. “This month’s operational update reflects CBP’s dedicated workforce diligently enforcing our laws concerning immigration while seizing fentanyl and other contraband, ensuring America’s economic security and facilitating travel and trade. It also reveals a return of international travel as compared to the depths of the pandemic and our commitment to effectively implementing the Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act as we mark the anniversary of its signing.”

The large number of individuals fleeing failing communist regimes in Nicaragua and Cuba is contributing to an increased number of migrants attempting to cross the border. Venezuelans, which previously constituted a part of that increase, continue to arrive at far lower numbers as a result of the migration enforcement process that includes expulsions to Mexico and lawful pathways. Venezuelans have dropped from roughly 1,100 a day the week before that process was announced, to roughly 100 a day consistently throughout November.

The number of Venezuelans has dropped because DHS is enforcing a new initiative which turns them back at the border. It’s as simple as that. Too bad the Biden administration is too stubborn to admit its policies have failed spectacularly and put back into place the policies and agreements that worked for the previous administration. Joe Biden is so Trump deranged that on his very first day in office he ended all of the things that work. Thus, the Biden border crisis. He called it an humanitarian approach to the southern border. Malarkey. It has created the greatest humanitarian and national security crisis in my lifetime. There is nothing humane in Biden’s pettiness and spitefulness, just trying to prove he is the anti-Trump when it comes to the southern border. It’s a dereliction of duty.

The Venezuelan Migration Enforcement Process is working:

September 2022 Southwest Land Border (SBO) Venezuelan encounters = 33,804
October 2022 Southwest Land Border (SBO) Venezuelan encounters = 22,045
November 2022 Southwest Land Border (SBO) Venezuelan encounters = 7,931

Imagine that. Enforcing a specific immigration policy works. If only there was a way to do that for all groups of migrants. Oh yeah, how about enforcing the laws already on the books? That would be a start.

The number of unaccompanied minors increased in November, which is concerning. That number had begun to drop in previous months.

Encounters of unaccompanied children increased 9.4%, with 13,150 encounters in November compared with 12,024 in October. In November, the average number of unaccompanied children in CBP custody was 597 per day, compared with an average of 491 per day in October.

The chaos on the southern border will explode when Title 42 ends. Thousands of migrants are waiting on the Mexican side of the border for that day to come.

One interesting tidbit is that Russians are showing up at the border in increasing numbers.

Russians were stopped 5,507 times, up 42% from 3,879. The vast majority were allowed into the United States under Title 42 exemptions in San Diego. The Associated Press reported last week that CBP was handing 40 exemptions a day to a private group to select people and that the group charged Russian speakers money for help getting them in the country.

Hmm. What could possibly go wrong? Biden deserves to be held responsible for the crisis he has intentionally created. A country without borders is not a sovereign nation.
