Migrants crossing into El Paso now come face-to-face with Texas National Guard troops holding rifles

Governor Greg Abbott deployed 400 Texas National Guard troops to El Paso in preparation of Title 42 ending and the current on-going crisis of illegal migrants flooding into the city. Thousands of illegal migrants crossed into El Paso last week and city resources are overwhelmed.

The increased presence of the Texas National Guard is to protect El Paso and stop illegal migrants from continuing to cross the border. Title 42 is scheduled to end on Wednesday. Chief Justice John Roberts issued an order to stay the lifting of Title 42 on Monday at the request of 19 Republican-led states. Roberts gave the Biden administration 24 hours to respond. So, it’s unclear how long the temporary stay, a procedural motion, will be in effect. Abbott and other officials are continuing on as though the Wednesday timeline will be in effect.

The scene at the border is a little different today than it was yesterday or last week. Migrants should prepare for a stand-off. They will face the business end of a rifle as they try to cross over from Ciudad Juarez.

Troops holding rifles stood guard at the U.S. side of the border across from Ciudad Juárez, Mexico, Tuesday morning backdropped by a line of Humvees.

New fencing at the Rio Grande River bank was also erected to stop migrants from crossing after thousands came across in the last week. Migrants crossing into the U.S. at El Paso are now faced with a stand-off with National Guard troops.

Governor Abbott sent National Guard troops to El Paso Monday so they could station themselves along the border. Expectations are that when Title 42 ends, the number of migrants surging at the border could grow to 14,000 or more every day.

The Texas National Guard plays a big role in helping the state during the Biden border crisis. Unfortunately, resources on the ground are so overwhelmed that the National Guard frequently end up processing illegal migrants – often more than 1,000 per day – in border towns. They are doing desk jobs instead of apprehending illegal migrants. The latest deployment to El Paso comes after the largest-ever caravan of 20 migrant buses received an escort to the border by Mexican police.

El Paso officials have released several hundred illegal migrants in the streets due to a lack of shelter space. They sleep on the streets or in makeshift shelters, including a section of the El Paso airport.

DHS has acknowledged Roberts’ temporary order. The department said it would continue ‘preparations to manage the border in a safe, orderly, and humane way when the Title 42 public health order lifts.’ Right. They think you are stupid. Does anyone really think that now, after two years of creating the Biden border crisis, DHS is really going to manage the border? The administration is still claiming the border is not open. How do you fix a problem you won’t admit to having?

There has been no plan released by DHS on how they will manage the border after Title 42 ends. There was a scant outline of a potential plan presented last spring when Joe Biden was insisting that Title 42 end in July but court challenges stopped that. Biden claimed he would have the most transparent administration – evah – yet there has been no transparency in this area. The administration moves migrants around the country in the dead of night so as to avoid press coverage, for example.

Local efforts continue in El Paso for when Title 42 ends.

El Paso’s Democratic Mayor Oscar Leeser warned on Monday that there are an estimated 20,000 migrants in Ciudad Juárez prepared to cross into the U.S.

Even with the future of Title 42 unknown, the city is preparing to accommodate a potential rush at the border. El Paso is converting large buildings into shelters as the Red Cross brings in 10,000 cots.

Local officials are also preparing to charter buses and transport migrants to neighboring Texas cities or other states.

Mayor Leeser declared a state of emergency last week.
