Are illegal migrants that are being bused to New York City too afraid to be dropped off in the city? According to Mayor Eric Adams, a second bus with illegal migrants arrived in NYC and only fourteen people got off the bus. Adams said he was led to believe that forty people were on the bus. He thinks they got off the bus before arriving in NYC because of the rise in crime.
‘We were led to believe about 40 people should have been on that bus. Only 14 got off,’ Adams told a woman organizing the convoy on Friday, in a conversation overheard by The New York Post.
‘Because of the fear that something was going to happen to them if they came to this location, people got off earlier,’ he speculated.
‘And we are concerned about that because we don’t want people being dropped off [just] anywhere.’
The Post said that Adams was referring to a fear of New York City’s rising crime.
Adams was there to help greet the migrants upon their arrival. The first bus arrived on Friday and Adams had a hissy fit, though he was not on the scene while he ranted. Texas Governor Greg Abbott is loading up buses with illegal migrants and sending them off, first to Washington, D.C. and now to NYC, too. Both cities are led by liberal Democrats who often remind everyone that their cities are sanctuary cities. So, what’s the problem? Both Adams and D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser are now begging for help from the federal government. Bowser even asked the Secretary of Defense for the National Guard to assist with migrants. He said no.
A Defense Department spokesperson said such a move could hurt the readiness status of the D.C. National Guard, which reports to the secretary of defense, and noted the capital city is receiving funds from FEMA.
‘We have determined providing this support would negatively impact the readiness of the DCNG and have negative effects on the organization and members,’ the spokesperson said.
Bowser told reporters on Friday that she wants to continue to work with the Pentagon to ensure political considerations ‘are not a part of their decision.’
Does she think the Biden administration would side with Governor Abbott over Muriel Bowser? Bowser and Adams are so out of touch with reality, it’s crazy. She’s getting the same treatment that Texas has received for almost two years. Requests for assistance in are denied. Or ignored.
Eric Adams called Governors Abbott and Ducey “cowards” for sending illegal migrants out of Texas and Arizona. He said that instead of sending them away, Abbott should provide housing for them. Where has he been? The communities along the southern border are overcrowded and fending for themselves due to the dereliction of duty by Joe Biden and DHS Secretary Mayorkas. Biden and Mayorkas have even closed detention centers along the border. There is nowhere to house them. As it is, some charities are finding hotel rooms for migrant families.
On Sunday Adams gave a news conference when the second bus arrived at the Port Authority.
“This is horrific when you think about what the governor is doing,” Adams said, noting that many of the arriving families did not realize they were coming to New York City.
“We’re finding that some of the families are on the bus that wanted to go to other locations, and they were not allowed to do so,” the mayor said. “They were forced on the bus with the understanding that they were going to other locations that they wanted to go to, and when they tried to explain they were not allowed to do so.”
I call malarkey on Adams’ accusation. It sounds like when Muriel Bowser said that the migrants are “tricked” into accepting a bus ride to Washington, D.C. Adams accuses Abbott of using illegal migrants as political pawns.
.@GregAbbott_TX used innocent people as political pawns to manufacture a crisis. New Yorkers are stepping up to fix it — that’s our city’s values.
But we need the federal government’s help — money, technical assistance and more. pic.twitter.com/cOdXrULpcC

Unlike Governor Abbott, New York City will always do our part, and I thank the NGOs, City workers and every day New Yorkers who have proven that today.

Ballsy statement, Mayor. Abbott isn’t doing his part? Tell that to Texas taxpayers who are on the hook for over a billion dollars for just one border security bill passed by the Legislature in 2021. The flood of migrants continues every day along the southern border.
Good morning from Eagle Pass, TX, where we are back on the ground continuing our border coverage. This is video shot by our drone team this AM showing part of a group of 200+ that crossed illegally. @TxDPS took them into custody & bussed them back to the port of entry. @FoxNews pic.twitter.com/nUfY4DKJXe

Why is it ok to expect Texas and Arizona to handle the flood of illegal migrants yet not ok for NYC to do the same? Adams has not even had 100 migrants arrive on the first two buses. What’s he complaining about? There were about fifty on the first bus that arrived on Friday. Adams even complains that he isn’t being given notice when a bus leaves Texas for NYC.
“They’re not letting us know when the buses are leaving. They’re not letting us know what are the needs of the people on the bus,” Adams said. “They are not giving us any information, so we’re unable to really provide the service to people en route.”
When the complaints from Adams began, Abbott reminded him of his promise to welcome all who come to NYC and boast of its sanctuary city status.
“In addition to Washington, D.C., New York City is the ideal destination for these migrants, who can receive the abundance of city services and housing that Mayor Eric Adams has boasted about within the sanctuary city,” Abbott said in a statement on Friday.
He added: “I hope he follows through on his promise of welcoming all migrants with open arms so that our overrun and overwhelmed border towns can find relief.”
It’s time for Eric Adams and Muriel Bowser to walk the walk. They pay lip service to being sanctuary cities when they know there is not a problem to deal with and as soon as someone takes them up on their offer and sends buses, all of a sudden it’s unacceptable. The migrants don’t sound like they were tricked to get on the buses.
One of the arrivals Jose Rodriguez, 38, told DailyMail.com he chose New York because it has the ‘best opportunities’ of the options he was given when he crossed the border.
He added that the group wasn’t allowed to leave a building in Texas building they were housed in and he lost all of his documents in his journey over the Rio Grande.
Bertilio Rosale, 54, also told DailyMail.com on arrival: ‘I want to see the Statue of Liberty and the rest of the city.
‘There are more job opportunities here, I will do anything I can. The bus here was good, we have all come from all over.’
They are coming here for economic opportunity, which is not a valid reason to seek asylum according to current immigration law. Some would like to do some sightseeing, too, apparently. Nothing will change until the current laws on the books are enforced and the southern border is secured. Biden has made it abundantly clear he will not do anything about it. He’s responsible for the humanitarian crisis. Democrats mayors are now experiencing some of the consequences of the open border. It may be a gimmick or a stunt but Abbott and Ducey are running out of options on how to get the attention of the federal government. The administration needs to do its job and supply the resources needed at the border.
