If not for the assassination of Charlie Kirk this week, there are other stories that would probably be getting more attention. One of those is the ongoing ICE crackdown in Chicago known as Operation Midway Blitz. Today there was an incident in which a traffic stop led to an agent being dragged by a car. The officer was injured but managed to shoot the driver. The driver was taken to a hospital but didn't survive.
A U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officer fatally shot a man in the Chicago area who drove his car into ICE officers, a representative for the agency said on Friday, adding that the man had been resisting arrest during a vehicle stop.
The man, who the authorities said was not legally in the country, dragged the officer as he fled in his vehicle, the agency representative said. The officer was severely injured and was in stable condition.
ICE identified the man as Silverio Villegas-Gonzalez, 38, who is from Mexico. He was pronounced dead at a local hospital.
There's no word on whether there might be body camera footage. There is a video from a business which shows part of what happened.
In surveillance video from a nail salon, ICE officers can be seen pulling up in a Jeep, with lights flashing, right in front of the Subaru driven by Villegas-Gonzalez. Agents walk over to the car. One goes to the passenger side window, the other to the driver's side window.
The officer on the passenger side, which is closer to the nail salon's cameras, appears to try to open the door. Then Villegas-Gonzalez starts backing up and drives away. You can still see the officer at the passenger's side window in the video; what you can't see is the agent who was at the driver's side window. That is the agent DHS said was dragged.
Surveillance video from another nearby business shows the truck driving west down Grand Avenue then Villegas-Gonzalez, in the Subaru, change from the right to left lane. A short time later, two loud noises that sound like gunshots can be heard.
Here's a report from WGN News that includes the nail salon video.
Again, you can't really see the officer on the far side of the car. He is the one who got dragged. Eventually the officer shot the driver and the car slammed into the side of a truck. There video shot by the driver which shows ICE agents rendering aid to the driver.
Details are still sketchy, but we've learned in Franklin Park an illegal attempted to run over an ICE agent with his car.

This incident is already being given the BLM treatment from local Democrats.
State Rep. Norma Hernandez, who represents the district where the incident occurred, told CNN affiliate WLS she believes ICE’s increasingly aggressive tactics are “bringing more fear into the communities.”
“The Trump administration declared war on American communities here in the state of Illinois and this is what this looks like – to kill innocent people, to ruin families and to break away families. We are not having this,” Hernandez said at a news conference on Friday.
Gov. Pritzker isn't going all in on this yet but called it a "troubling incident."
I am aware of the troubling incident that has unfolded in Franklin Park.

This is a developing situation and the people of Illinois deserve a full, factual accounting of what’s happened today to ensure transparency and accountability.
The driver's girlfriend claims ICE is lying about what happened.
Villegas-Gonzalez's girlfriend, Blanca Mora, speaking through an interpreter, said she just wants the truth to come out, believing ICE is lying about the shooting.
DHS released a statement praying for the speedy recovery of the injured officer.
“We are praying for the speedy recovery of our law enforcement officer. He followed his training, used appropriate force, and properly enforced the law to protect the public and law enforcement,” Tricia McLaughlin, Homeland Security assistant secretary, said in a news release.
“Viral social media videos and activists encouraging illegal aliens to resist law enforcement not only spread misinformation, but also undermine public safety, as well as the safety of our officers and those being apprehended,” she said.
Maybe you'll hear more about this over the weekend. It's certainly a story that would probably be getting a lot more national media attention (from media outlets eager to bash ICE) on any other week.
Editor’s Note: Democrat politicians and their radical supporters will do everything they can to interfere with and threaten ICE agents enforcing our immigration laws.
