With the successful recall of progressive DA Chesa Boudin in San Francisco and the ongoing campaign for a similar recall of DA George Gascon in Los Angeles, word is apparently circulating among prisoners and their lawyers that now is the time to make a deal. Specifically, a murder suspect named Willie Wilkerson was heard telling his mother that his attorney hopes to get his murder charge down to manslaughter before Gascon is recalled.
“I told you last time that he wanna hurry up and try to get something done before they re-elect somebody else besides Gascón and bring back that bull—- life without parole and death penalty,” Wilkerson can be heard saying.
Fox News has more on why Wilkerson is in jail right now:
Wilkerson is accused of shooting and killing 21-year-old Elijah Martin during a home invasion robbery in Lancaster, California, in February of last year, Fox News has learned. He was also charged with the attempted murder of two other people who were shot during the home invasion.
Here’s the audio of Wilkerson explaining the situation to his mother.
It’s not like this is the first time a prisoner has been caught on a jailhouse phone expressing hope that Gascon’s policies will save him from a long sentence. Back in April another suspect was caught saying he was so happy with Gascon he was going to get the DA’s name tattooed on his face.
“I’m going to get that n—–’s name on my face. That’s a champ right there. F—in’ Gascón,” says gang member Luis Angel Hernandez in a jailhouse phone call…
According to a law enforcement source, Hernandez shot and killed a delivery person for a marijuana delivery service during an armed robbery in 2018. He is a member of the OTF gang…
“This s–t looking real good. Now we got a new DA in LA … so they’re going to drop a gang of, um, like my gun enhancement, my gang enhancement,” he says in the jailhouse phone call. “My gang enhancement is 10 years, fool, for being a gang member. And then the gun in the commission of a crime.”…
“That’s the n—– right there, bro. He’s making historic changes for all of us, fool. I’m just grateful, fool. Like, I got good news off that s–t,” Hernandez says in the audio.
And back before that, Gascon was hugely embarrassed when another criminal who got a light sentence because Gascon refused to charge him as an adult was caught on a jailhouse call showing no sympathy for his victim and boasting about the light sentence he received.
Tubbs was convicted of sexually assaulting a 10-year-old girl in a Denny’s bathroom in Palmdale in 2014 at age 17.
In one call in November 2021 while in LA County custody, Tubbs makes extremely crude, disparaging remarks about the girl and his sexual desires for her at the time.

In the same call, Tubbs suggested that his post-arrest gender transition was a gimmick to keep him out of a male prison.
LISTEN: In another in-custody phone call, transgender child molester Hannah Tubbs instructs family to say “her” in court because “we’re trying to avoid the whole [sex offender] registering thing”, & “we’re also trying to avoid prison again.” Tubbs avoided both under @GeorgeGascon pic.twitter.com/Sniw4rUPBs

Since getting that light sentence, Tubbs has been charged with murder. It’s not like these violent criminals are being made to say this stuff by conservatives trying to make the DA look bad. It just turns out that being the best hope for (alleged) murderers to avoid accountability makes you very popular among the murderers and their attorneys.
