Four more years? (I'm referring to Democratic control of the United States.) This somehow seems to make sense with a significant portion of the population judging by the latest polls, potentially fully half of likely voters. And what's not to like, right? Just look at the current state of the world. Setting sarcasm aside for the moment, it turns out that Joe Biden may not have been quite as oblivious to the global disaster that's been building for some time now back in March, or at least his handlers were aware of it. The NY Post is reporting that Biden secretly ordered a shift in America's nuclear weapons strategy back then. The classified plan ordered a shift in our strategy to focus on China as a nuclear threat. The order also warned of the increasing likelihood of China teaming up with Russia and North Korea against the interests of the United States. (That would be the new axis of evil that we've been warning you about for quite some time.) The program is called the "Nuclear Employment Guidance" and it was first reported this week by the New York Times.

President Biden has signed off on a highly classified plan that shifts America’s nuclear strategy to focus on China as a nuclear threat — and prepare for the possibility that the communist nation could team up with North Korea and Russia against the US, according to a new report.

Biden made the shift in March because the Pentagon believes China’s nuclear arsenal will rival the US and Russia, the New York Times reported Tuesday, citing sources.

The new strategy is called the “Nuclear Employment Guidance” and also readies the US for a possible coordinated threat between China, Russia and North Korea, the newspaper reported.

On the one hand, it's understandable why the White House wouldn't announce this sort of thing in a press briefing. After all, our nuclear strategy and preparations are among the most classified bits of intelligence in America's national security realm. From that perspective, I'll offer a rare tip of my hat to the Biden administration for at least trying to stay on top of the situation and enhance our readiness for a worst-case scenario. Of course, it had already been obvious to even the most casual observers that Russia had been pulling China, North Korea, and Iran into its orbit for several years.

Yet at the same time, how is it that Biden's team insisted on continuing to paint such a sunny face on this very dark situation? We were repeatedly assured that the United States did not desire an adversarial relationship with China. Instead, we wanted to foster a competitive, yet productive relationship that would mutually benefit both nations. Was this position driven by a recognition that China controlled too much of the "green energy" market share? Was it a nod to the reality that we had long since surrendered control of the global supply chains to the point where China could economically devastate us with the flip of a few switches on the international trade markets? 

Meanwhile, our position regarding Russia seemed almost entirely backward. Even before Putin invaded Ukraine, the Biden administration was already rattling sabers in their direction. Russia was a country that, while diametrically the opposite of America in terms of freedom and democracy, had built strong economic ties with America, with many American businesses flourishing inside of their borders and Western culture taking root in Russian society in terms of food, fashion, and entertainment. But immediately after the invasion (which was bad to be sure, but actually none of our business because Ukraine was not an ally), Biden declared economic warfare on Russia with sweeping sanctions and the withdrawal of American business interests from that country. As we have now seen, the sanctions have largely failed and Russia replaced our businesses with home-grown startups. Meanwhile, the only country in the new axis of evil that Biden seemed to be interested in reaching out to was Iran. They rewarded us by repeatedly spitting in our faces and using our money to sponsor increasing levels of international terrorism.

Today we sit teetering on the brink of a potential nuclear war. Our adversaries are empowered while our own military struggles to meet its recruiting goals. Our allies who depend upon us are clearly casting a dubious eye in terms of our ability or even willingness to stand up for them. As the saying goes, hard times produce hard men and strong growth. Soft times produce weak men and a weaker society. We are currently reaping the fruits of weakness. Let's hope the story doesn't end with a mushroom cloud rising over Manhattan.
