At Oberlin College in Ohio, the school is already under investigation by the Department of Education because of the anti-Israel Jewish hatred on display there. One of the subjects of the investigation has been Professor Mohammad Jafer Mahallati (a “professor of peace”), an Iranian citizen who has frequently spoken out in support of Hamas. He has openly called for the elimination of Israel after previously coming out as a vocal supporter of the Islamic fatwa against Salman Rushdie. But none of that was enough to see him removed from Oberlin. Instead, the investigation turned up reports that he previously taught at Columbia University where he operated a “sex for grades” scheme involving young female students. That was apparently a bridge too far and the professor of peace has been suspended. (NY Post)
A college professor of “peace” accused of teaching support for Hamas has been suspended from his tenured post at an ultra-liberal school after allegations he once ran a sex-for-grades scheme came to light.
Iranian citizen Mohammad Jafer Mahallati — who has called for the elimination of Israel and backed the murderous fatwa against Salman Rushdie — was discreetly put on indefinite administrative leave by Oberlin College, Ohio, and scrubbed from its website last month after the administration learned he had previously accused of sexual harassment.
The college is currently being investigated by the federal Department of Education after a complaint that it abused the civil rights of Jewish students by allegedly letting Mahallati speak in favor of Hamas and give credit for writing anti-Israel screeds.
It’s interesting to note that Mahallati’s previous gig was at Columbia, another school currently under investigation for rank antisemitism and violent rhetoric on campus. We seem to be seeing a pattern developing here, but more on that in a moment.
Mahallati certainly sounds like a despicable character. He is now 71, so he was already more than a decade older than his students when he reportedly offered top grades to a young girl in exchange for sex. He was already married at that time and had a son with his wife. The student reported his sexual abuse to school authorities and later sued both Mahallati and the school, alleging that he worked to ruin her academic and professional reputation after she exposed his actions.
How is it that someone who got in that much trouble for a sexual abuse scandal involving fraudulent grades still wound up landing a position at Oberlin without anyone noticing? Or was this a case of the administration knowing about it but simply not caring? This goes back to the “pattern” I mentioned above. It’s not just a case of one bad professor at one school with a dubious administration. We’re seeing blatant discrimination (against Jews) combined with the sexual abuse of young women. These are precisely the things that “thought leaders” on the left are constantly screaming about and lecturing the rest of the country over. But they’ve obviously been bubbling away below the surface on the campuses of our vaunted colleges and universities. It took the war in Gaza to rip off the bandage and bring it all to the surface.
It sounds like it’s time for a thorough housecleaning to be launched by the Department of Education. The professors and administrators being highlighted in the news over the past month are obviously not the only rats that will be found scurrying when a bright light is shone upon these schools. And if the schools won’t clean up their own backyards, the government needs to cut off all of the grants that wind up going into their massive endowments. That’s probably the only thing that will get their attention.
