Some people are apparently just born under a lucky star and this week’s roundup of news about First Son Hunter Biden seems to prove it’s true. Most of the attention thus far has been paid to the sweetheart deal that Hunter received for both his tax evasion and felony gun charges. Neither will result in any time behind bars, and one of his fancy friends will no doubt pay any fines that he might incur. (Or he can simply sell another of his paint-by-numbers pieces of “art” for a half million or so.) But the younger Biden quietly scored another legal victory this week, this time against his “baby mama” (God, I hate that phrase) Lunden Roberts. An out-of-court settlement was somehow reached where Roberts will have her child support payments slashed by more than 75%. In addition to that, she is dropping her efforts to have her daughter’s surname changed to Biden. (NY Post)
Hunter Biden and his baby mama have privately settled their child support dispute in Arkansas, according to a source close to the first son.
Lunden Roberts, 32, the mother of Hunter’s long-unacknowledged four-year-old daughter, agreed to her monthly child support payments being slashed by more than 75% — from $20,000 to less than $5,000.
She also is understood to have dropped her legal bid to change the little girl’s surname to Biden, a request rejected by Hunter’s attorneys.
The real victim in all of this is Navy Joan Roberts. Her mother has reportedly been trying to put money away for her future. (She appears to have set aside $11,000 dollars for her thus far.) But that’s not easy to do when Hunter keeps failing to make his payments. And now, if the payments do arrive they will be a fraction of what he was originally ordered to pay. Navy’s mother had to work as an exotic dancer to pay for her own college education in Washington and has clearly been hoping that Navy could avoid a decision like that.
Child support settlements are almost always contentious and efforts to agree on payment amounts can be hotly contested. But Navy will someday learn that her biological father was alternately living in the White House and some of the priciest real estate in the country. He also flew to Arkansas in a private jet to plead poverty and have his payments slashed to the bone. One has to wonder how her emotional development will eventually be impacted.
The child support payments are one thing, but the name change issue is another. Why would Lunden Roberts agree to drop her efforts? People legally change their names all the time in the United States and she is the child’s sole custodian and biological mother. So can’t she just do it? As it turns out, that’s a messy legal area and the official answer is “sometimes.” If both parents agree, it’s essentially automatic. But if the noncustodial parent objects or is unavailable to consent, the petitioning parent must file a request with the courts. The objecting parent is allowed to file their own reasons for objecting and the judge will eventually render a decision based on a variety of factors.
But Lunden wouldn’t have to go through all of this if Hunter had simply signed off on the request. What is his major objection? The Biden family doesn’t own some sort of trademark on the name “Biden.” Was Lunden blackmailed into abandoning her effort in order to receive her vastly reduced child support payments?
Nobody is explaining this so far. But it seems to be yet another example of how “friendly Uncle Joe’s” family is actually a collection of cruel, awful people. We already know that Navy’s grandparents – the President and the First Lady – put up Christmas stockings for their other six grandchildren. They even put one up for the dog. But Navy remains unacknowledged by the vastly wealthy Biden clan who live in mansions while her mother has to beg for child support money to get by. These people are simply villainous scum.
