As we previously discussed, in addition to the war on merit and the war on things that work, Joe Biden had used the power of the pen and the phone to launch a war on people with good credit. Starting next week, the Federal Housing Authority will begin charging fees to mortgage holders with good credit to pay for subsidies to people who are less likely to actually pay back their loans. But the Republicans in the House of Representatives just released a new bill that would block Biden’s efforts to do this. One of the bill’s sponsors accused Biden of fostering a “culture of dependency” on the federal government while penalizing citizens who put in the effort to do the right thing. This is being viewed in the same way as Biden’s plans to “forgive” student loans while shifting the financial burden from the borrowers to the rest of the taxpayers. (Fox News)
House Republicans are rolling out legislation to stop a new Biden administration regulation that, if implemented, would force lower-risk mortgage borrowers to help subsidize lower rates for high-risk borrowers.
Rep. Stephanie Bice, R-Okla., vice chair of the Republican Main Street Caucus, told Fox News Digital on Wednesday that President Joe Biden was enabling a “culture of dependency” and blasted the White House for levying new regulations while skirting Congress to do so.
“Whether its student loan forgiveness or their mortgage rule, through the power of the pen, Biden and his executive agencies are attempting to bypass Congress and fundamentally change how our country operates,” Bice said.
The bill is called the Free Market Mortgage Act of 2023. Of course, Senate Democrats are almost certainly going to block the measure and Biden is already promising to shoot it down should it somehow make it to his desk.
If this situation receives sufficient attention in the media (don’t hold your breath), it raises a larger question as we fully move into the presidential primary season. I was just reading yet another poll indicating that a very significant majority of Democrats don’t want Joe Biden to run for a second term in office. And virtually no Republicans or independents do. It feels as if it’s past time for us to have a bipartisan public conversation about the direction the country is currently taking.
No matter which political ideology you generally favor, if you are a “normal” working-class person (whatever that means in 2023), how much more of this are we collectively going to put up with? Joe Biden and the Democrats in Washington are engaging in a direct assault on the normal rules of order and regular, law-abiding Americans who have worked to do the right thing and build a life for themselves.
And it’s not just this latest scheme to undermine the American dream of home ownership. If you are a Democrat or generally liberal independent, I’m not asking you to paint banners and go out in the streets and protest in favor of Republicans. I’m just requesting that you take a moment and look in the mirror. Are you really okay with all of the craziness that has overtaken your party?
I don’t expect you to suddenly favor lower taxes or gun rights or restrictions on abortion. We’re never going to come to any sort of universal consensus on some of those bedrock issues. But can you honestly say that working-class people who struggled to pay their bills and maintain a good credit rating so they could someday own a home should be punished to benefit riskier loan applicants? If you raised a child who worked hard and rose to the upper ranks of their class, do you truly believe that they should be passed over for a place in a good university because your kid has the wrong skin color or sexual orientation? Are you okay with being told that you have to go purchase a far more expensive electric car and deal with charging station issues because the average temperature of the planet might climb by a degree or so? Do you believe schools should be able to hide from you or any other parent the fact that your children are contemplating having themselves chemically castrated?
Please do the world a massive and desperately needed favor. Put aside your natural political instincts for just one moment, no matter if they are generally to the left or the right, and privately contemplate those questions. Are you really okay with all of this? Or do you silently wonder how the nation is being forcibly marched down a path toward what is obviously insanity? It doesn’t have to be this way. But we need you to stand up and draw a line in the sand and reject the radical progressive leaders who are responsible for all of this. I’m not saying you should start voting for conservative Republicans. Just find some Democrats who are still sane and who align with the rest of your beliefs and band together to elect them and reject the current pack of nutjobs who are demanding all of the things I listed above. We are being pushed into some extremely dangerous territory at this point and if we can’t turn this ship around, I fear we’re heading for something even worse. This is becoming an end-of-the-world scenario and the Great American Experiment is coming closer to actual failure than I would have ever imagined possible. It has to stop.
