Kanye West on 2020: Yep. I'm in

As much as I want to throw rotten eggs at anyone who begins talking about the 2020 presidential election this week, particularly after what we’ve just been through, this one is simply too good to pass up. In the aftermath of last Tuesday, Michael Moore went on television to ask why the Democrats can’t just nominate people who are actually beloved by the American people. Well Michael, your wish is granted. As reported by our colleagues at Redstate yesterday, you’ve got a candidate on the way who is a complete outsider and wildly popular with your base. Yes… Kanye West is running for President.

Rapper, mogul and “fashion designer” Kanye West has said in the past that he would seriously consider a bid for the White House in 2020.

In an interview with BBC radio this week, Yeezy confirmed he will run in 2020.

“When I talk about the idea of being president, I’m not saying I have any political views,” he told Mac. “I don’t have views on politics, I just have a view on humanity, on people, on the (the) truth. If there is anything that I can do with my time to somehow make a difference while I’m still alive, I’m all for it.”

This is fantastic news. We can finally have a candidate to run against who is not only a rapper, but has a rap sheet to boot. Pointing out that he doesn’t have any political views is a good move for Kanye. Once you start making policy plans people begin wanting to ask you questions about them and then it’s just one headache after another.

You may recall that Kanye first brought the subject up seriously in August at the VMAs. Of course, “seriously” may be a bit difficult to pin down because he later admitted that he was high when he said it. But that could work out in his favor as well. Democrats are passing marijuana legalization laws all over the country these days and if he’s moving into the White House he’ll be pleasantly surprised to learn that the District of Columbia legalized it for recreational use last year. I mean, if you’re going to put someone in charge of the whole nation during a wave of such laws you’ll want somebody who has some experience with the product.

Democrats will have some other issues to deal with if Kanye takes the nomination, however. This brings us back to that whole good for the goose, good for the gander thing. While Donald Trump was running for election the media had absolutely no problem pointing out that his wife had done some nude and provocative modeling in years past, with some outlets reprinting photos just to drive the point home. So I suppose prospective First Ladies are fair game for that now. Hrmmm… who is Kanye married to again? Oh, that’s right. Kim Kardashian.

I was *this close* to including a couple of links to some of Kim’s previous, er… work… but we like to keep the site PG-13 as much as possible. I’m sure a quick Google search will bring you loads of data on her if you’re so inclined. So since Melania’s modeling was an issue, I assume that Democrats will condemn Kanye on similar grounds?

I doubt he’s really serious, but if he is I’m actually beginning to look forward to the next Democratic primary.
