Taking a hard line on abortion would have made it easier for the Democrats to steal another election because it would have shifted a significant number of votes to Biden.

President Trump is Constitutionally correct when he stated that abortion is an issue that must be left in the hands of the states.  The Constitution does not grant federal government the authority to define or punish the crime of murder.

My friend Peter and I are both hard-line abortion opponents, but we both agree on Trump's reliance on federalism. We finally got the Supreme Court to reverse Roe and its follow-on antecedents by recognizing that the Constitution does not give the federal government any jurisdiction for abortion. That is too valuable a finding -- not just for abortion but for a whole raft of other federal overreaches -- to toss away by claiming federal jurisdiction for it again.

This is an issue for the states.
