Sen. Patty Murray, the president pro tempore of the Senate, told me that she will align herself with Biden's stance and back a repeal of DC’s new crime law.
"I absolutely respect that decision," Murray said about Biden and added: "I'll be voting the same way the president is."— Manu Raju (@mkraju) March 3, 2023
House Dems I’ve spoken to are angry at WH after 173 members voted against a GOP effort last month to rescind DC's new crime law — only to learn Thursday that Biden would side with GOP.
“Cannot trust the WH,” one told me. They say WH did not express Biden’s view before House vote— Manu Raju (@mkraju) March 3, 2023
[That’s pretty stunning coming from Murray, who represents one of the most progressive blue states in the US. She just won re-election in November, so she won’t face voters next year, but a number of her red-state Senate Democrat colleagues will. I wouldn’t be surprised if this resolution gets 80 votes in the Senate at this rate — which will amplify the humiliation of House Democrats who opposed it. See my earlier post for more. — Ed]
