Up next for Warner Bros. TV on the comedy side are How to Be a Bookie starring Sebastian Maniscalco, Lorre’s first show for HBO Max, which had its first table read last week. The Sex Lives of College Girls was renewed for a third season, Dungey’s team is working on a second season of Scooby-Doo spinoff Velma, an adult animated comedy that comes from Kaling and Charlie Grandy that was the streamer’s most-watched animated series debut ever, and Starz’s Shining Vale, starring Courteney Cox, Greg Kinnear and Mira Sorvino, which has just finished production on its second season.

Via Newsbusters, which reports it thusly:

One of the most hated shows in television history is somehow getting a second season.

On Monday, the Chairman and CEO of Warner Brothers Television Group, Channing Dungey, confirmed to Deadline that HBO Max’s Velma is being renewed. …

The decision to follow-through with the second season, despite near universal rejection of the woke cartoon by viewers, is mind-boggling.

[Velma? They’re renewing the execrable Velma? Be sure to read through Deadline’s comments, where readers are unanimous on its awfulness. One suggests that the “second season” may be in fact just the original contractual obligation and not a renewal at all, which may be a face-saving way of burying Velma. The wording in this passage — that the production team is “working on” season 2 does not actually *state* that it’s being renewed, either. — Ed]
