"I have spoken up quite a lot about this sort of conditional citizenship"

Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) spoke with Mehdi Hasan about the current climate for Muslims living in the United States:

“As you know I have spoken up quite a lot about this sort of conditional citizenship. This privilege that is often spoken about when it comes to Muslim in this country. That we should be glad, even those who are born in this country, like Rashida Tlaib and Keith Ellison, have all heard that way too often. It is important for us to recognize that Islamophobia has been normalized and has been part of the political discourse. When people tell me why do I speak up so forcibly against is because of that.”
