What does it say when an organization has to call an all-hands meeting to define the word "woman"? Especially when the organization literally has that word in its title?
And what does it say about the organization when it fails to do so?
The Women's National Basketball Association held a league-wide meeting yesterday to address the issue of eligibility restrictions. Its charter makes clear that only "women" can compete in the league, a term which, up until a hot second ago, everyone understood perfectly. And after everyone cogitated for the entire day on what the word "women" means, the league came up with exactly ... bupkis.
Well, not entirely bupkis. They did manage to come up with a statement blaming everyone else for their utter incoherence on their own rule and core identity:
🚨 NOW: The WNBA is PANICKING, they just held their meeting about how to define "woman" and walked out with NO DEFINITION

You gotta be kidding 🤡
Former NBA players Enes Freedom and Royce White are full steam ahead to the draft 🤣
WNBA: "There are no immediate eligibility… pic.twitter.com/9ewnCfuW4J
"There are no immediate eligibility matters affecting the WNBA, and we strongly denounce the bad faith efforts to use these topics to demean or marginalize others."
Utter clowns! The WNBA is cooked!
Ahem. It wasn't Enes Kantor Freedom or Royce White who created this problem. Sophie Cunningham didn't create it either; an ESPN reporter demanded Cunningham's opinion on it while Cunningham was criticizing the league's treatment of her teammate Caitlin Clark. Minnesota Lynx head coach Cheryl Reeve made it worse by attempting to troll Cunningham at a game with a "Trans Kids Belong" T-shirt during a game against the Fever, and the Lynx made it worse by attacking women and girls who support Cunningham.
And now that two biological males want to compete in the league, the woke morons who run the league find themselves hoist by their own petard.
So when do these geniuses plan to settle on a definition of woman? Maybe they'll drop it under the Christmas tree. No, I am not kidding:
The WNBA and team representatives from across the league met Wednesday, Aug. 12 for planned talks on various matters, including ongoing debate over transgender females' participation in women's basketball.
"Today’s meeting covered a wide range of topics, including ongoing discussions on transgender athletes and the continued hate and vitriol directed at players online. We will continue to engage all league stakeholders in the coming weeks and months," a statement USA TODAY received from a WNBA spokesperson said.
"Weeks and months"? Will it take the Women's National Basketball Association "weeks and months" to define the word "women"? What did the league think it meant for the past thirty years since its founding?
Here's what is really happening. The league exists for two reasons. One: the NBA wanted to expand the sport's appeal to women and has subsidized it since its inception for that purpose. Two, and most important in this moment: It's a social-justice project primarily oriented to the lesbian and queer communities. The leadership of both leagues are afraid of alienating that base by declaring that biological sex is an objective fact, and that biological males have competitive advantages over females in athletics. Until now, the WNBA has been able to virtue-signal to the T and Q of the LGBTQ fan base without any risk.
Thanks to an ESPN reporter desperate for some clicks, though, that immunity is now over. Either the league has to draw a line at biology or watch as retired NBA players turn the WNBA into a senior division of the NBA, crowding females out of their own league. The entire collection of toxically woke officials in the league couldn't parse an easy way out of the trap they set for themselves, and so now the league will have to take months to figure out a way to admit the obvious ... and potentially lose a big part of their audience.
This is what happens when Peak Woke arrives. The result should prove far more entertaining than the league's actual product, too.
