Gee, why didn't Donald Trump know about this ghastly murder in Charlotte, NC, before yesterday evening? The same reason the rest of us didn't hear about it, until the surveillance video of the stabbing of a Ukrainian refugee went viral. The media refused to cover it, as Beege covered in detail yesterday. (True story: I first heard about it from Beege, and I suspect a number of our readers had the same experience.)
Later in the evening, Trump heard about it for the first time on an airport tarmac. He told reporters that he'd be fully read into the case by the time you read this post (via Twitchy):
🚨 BREAKING: President Trump is planning to look into the kiIIing of Iryna Zarutska on a train in Charlotte

Suddenly, there's an explosion of media interest in the case of Iryna Zarutska -- and especially the perp, Decarlos Brown. Trump's pledge to dig into the case has CNN, Newsweek, News Nation, and others scrambling to catch up to the story. And there is so much story to catch up.
First off, let's look at the criminal record of Brown. He reportedly has mental-health issues, but he also has violent criminal issues. In Mecklenburg County alone, Brown had 14 priors before he butchered a young woman on the public transport, several of them violent felonies, and yet keeps getting onto the streets:
The man accused in the fatal stabbing of 23-year-old Ukrainian refugee Iryna Zarutska is 34-year-old Decarlos Brown, a Charlotte resident with a lengthy criminal history. Brown was charged with first-degree murder after surveillance footage captured him attacking Zarutska on a light rail train on August 22. The video shows Brown seated behind the victim before pulling out a folding knife and stabbing her multiple times without provocation.
Court records reveal Brown has faced 14 prior cases in Mecklenburg County, including convictions for robbery with a dangerous weapon, breaking and entering, and larceny, per WCNC. He served six years in prison following a 2015 sentence and was released despite repeated offenses.
Mediaite picked it up just before Trump's comment as the horrifying video went viral. They gave it a "conservatives pounce" spin, however:
The stomach-wrenching video of a young Ukrainian woman being stabbed to death on a North Carolina train shocked and disgusted observers on X over the weekend. But many conservatives have noted that mainstream media outlets like The New York Times, CNN, the Associated Press, and the Wall Street Journal — as well as the three major networks, ABC, NBC, and CBS — have been conspicuously silent and not reported on the attack. ...
The murder has led to questions about why Brown Jr. was even allowed to sit behind Zarutska in the first place. Brown Jr., who has been diagnosed with schizophrenia, has a long list of violent and non-violent crimes on his record, including robbery with a dangerous weapon, felony larceny, and breaking and entering.
Some major outlets have covered the story — including Fox News, Axios, the New York Post, and NewsNation. But the lack of coverage from the aforementioned mainstream outlets has not gone unnoticed by many on X — including Elon Musk, who quote tweeted a post from End Wokeness and said “zero” major news companies have covered the story.
Here's a fun fact: The New York Times still hasn't covered the story, at least as of 8:45 am ET today. Neither has the Associated Press, despite the fact that local media partners are covering the story. Again, as of 8:51 am ET, this is what you get when searching the AP's site for the story:
You'll get essentially the same with alternate spellings of the victim's name, as well as a search on the perp.
Why are media outlets refusing to cover this story? For the same reason that they rely on cooked crime data: narratives. The case of Iryna Zarutska reminds us of the costs of leaving dangerous psychopaths and criminals on the street. The abominable public-safety conditions in America's cities provide evidence of the failure of progressives who have controlled them for decades. The success of Trump's intervention in DC re-teaches the lessons learned in the 1990s about enforcing the law and keeping dangerous people in prison.
A decade or more of apologizing to criminals gave us Decarlos Brown and took from us Iryna Zarutska. That's the real news, that's the real truth, and the AP and NYT would rather say nothing than report it.
So yes, maybe conservatives are pouncing. But so are violent felons like Decarlos Brown, and progressive mayors, prosecutors, and governors are abetting it while the Protection Racket Media conspires to cover it up. How long will we allow them to get away with it?
Update: Looks like Brown's on his own for legal representation, after GoFundMe took a beating on social media thsi weekend:
GoFundMe has yanked sickening online fundraisers for the maniac accused of murdering a Ukrainian refugee on a North Carolina train after the legal defense funds sparked widespread outrage.
The fundraising pages suggested Decarlos Brown Jr. — a career criminal with no fewer than 14 arrests — is just as much a victim as Iryna Zarutska, the woman seen being knifed dozens of times in a random attack.
Helping the 35-year-old homeless suspect would also support the “fight against the racism and bias against our people,” one fundraiser reckoned.
“While what happened on the Blue Line was a tragedy, what we mustn’t lose sight of is the fact that Decarlos Brown Jr. was failed categorically by the judicial system and the mental health services of North Carolina, and as such is not entirely to blame for what happened,” one page claimed.
Yeah, you can pound that nonsense up the down staircase, pal. It's precisely this kind of transformation of criminals into victims that cost Zarutska her life, because this perp never should have been on the streets at all. He should either have been committed to a mental institution or imprisoned for life as a habitual violent offender. It's too late to save Zarutska, but let's prevent the next innocent victim from being slaughtered as a sacrifice to wokery.
