Denial Ain't Just a River In Egypt: Biden Has Nothing to Do With 2028?

Perhaps this qualifies more as wishcasting than as denial. Either way, it assumes that the same electorate that currently holds Democrats in utter contempt for the party's cover-up of Joe Biden's cognitive impairment will suffer a similar malady over the next couple of years.

Maybe?

Writing today at the Washington Monthly, Bill Scher advises Democrats to hold their heads high as they begin to suss out the entrants for the 2028 presidential nomination sweepstakes. "The end of Biden's epic political career," Scher writes, "is sad, tragic, and irrelevant to the 2028 election." Will he be proven correct?

Scher argues that no one's responsible for Joe Biden's collapse other than the Bidens -- not his staff, not the Democrats who insisted that Biden was Sharp As A Tack®, or the media that covered the story in the Iowahawk sense:

But, despite recent suggestions that potential Democratic presidential candidates heap scorn on Biden’s closest allies for failing to force Biden out of the 2024 race, or to pressure those allies to perform self-flagellation as the cost of winning back the public trust. We have zero evidence of a scandal, only people caught in an awkward situation. While it’s a situation that had grave consequences, no public trust has been broken by anyone aspiring to be president.

That includes 2028 potential candidates from the Biden administration: Vice President Kamala Harris and Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg. I have not had an opportunity to read Original Sin by Jake Tapper and Alex Thompson, out today, about Biden’s aging. But I assume that if they had bombshells about Harris or Buttigieg concealing bona fide dementia, we would have seen some screaming headlines by now.

Our friend and contributor Duane Patterson leapt on this claim immediately:

Is Duane right, or is Scher? It depends on just how far accountability will go. Will all of the Democrat governors, senators, and representatives who vouched for Biden's cognitive state ever have to answer for their fraudulent statements? Not if Scher can help it -- and maybe not if the media can help it either, even those currently plumbing the moral depths of the Now It Can Be Told genre.

Take, as an example, the literal item du jour, the Jake Tapper/Alex Thompson book released today. James Kirchick provides an overview of Original Sin for Politico, and notes that it does indeed name some names in the course of uncovering the cover-up. However, it seems very judicious about which names get named:

The most important service these post-mortem volumes provide is naming the people who gaslit the country. Chief among the malefactors is Donilon, informal leader of “the Politburo” and a figure who blends the ethics of Bob Haldeman with the avarice of Bob Menendez.

Well, I guess Donilon won't run for president in 2028! The other names named in the Tapper book also have one foot in obscurity and the other on a banana peel in the post-Obama/Biden era:

  • Steve Richetti
  • Ron Klain
  • Anita Dunn
  • T.J. Ducklo
  • Andrew Bates

Kirchick only mentions one Democrat officeholder, although it's not clear whether the book addresses others:

Finally, there are the many Democrats who witnessed the president’s senescence yet said nothing. At the top of this list is Schiff, who lambasted Hur on national television for having the temerity to remark upon Biden’s “poor memory.” A few months later, after Biden confirmed Hur’s assessment on the CNN debate stage, Schiff went around telling colleagues that Biden needed to drop out. When Schiff finally mustered the fortitude to say this out loud, this profile in courage became the 23rd member of Congress to do so. A public apology to Hur has not been forthcoming.

This is a nonsensical accounting of the massive coverup by the entire Democrat establishment about Biden's physical and cognitive health. Everyone from Kamala Harris on down attested to Biden's health to persuade voters that he was not only up to the job at the time but would be able to serve another for years. For cripe's sake, Rep. Jim Clyburn was still trying to sell Biden II: Drooling Boogaloo on CNN Sunday morning:

TAPPER: At a different time in that interview [with special counsel Hur], he’s asked about the 2017-2018 period, and he says during that period, his son Beau was either deployed or dying, but Beau was deployed in 2008-2009 and he died tragically in May 2015. Needless to say, even supporters of the president have heard these tapes and been alarmed by it. What was your response to them? Did you see much of that when you had meetings and interactions with President Biden during his term?

CLYBURN: No, I didn’t. The fact of the matter is, I saw Biden often, but not as often as people seem to think. I saw him. I talked to him on the telephone very often, and I never saw anything that I thought was outside of the ordinary.

…I never saw anything I thought was unusual. Did he talk as swiftly as he used to talk? No, he didn’t. Did he walk as swiftly? No, he didn’t. But that is to be expected. Those of us who reach that age, as I have, we don’t walk as often as — as fast as we used to. And I may talk as fast as I used to, but we down here in the South don’t talk all that fast anyway.

TAPPER: Well, with all due respect, sir, having interviewed you quite often, I don’t think there’s any comparison between how sharp you are and your ability to talk and answer questions and get dates right, et cetera, and what we have seen from President Biden, both in that audio, but also throughout 2023, 2024, especially on the debate stage. Do you think that Joe Biden really would have been able to perform as president all the way through January 2029, when he would be 86?

CLYBURN: Yes, I thought that back then. I still think that, but I don’t know that.

Jim Geraghty noted that the Bidens cut Clyburn off at the legs just a few hours later:

Yesterday morning turned out to be a particularly bad time to assert that Biden would have been able to perform as president all the way through January 2029, as we were hours away from learning that President Biden was diagnosed with stage 4 prostate cancer, with metastasis to the bone, and it’s “an aggressive form of the disease.”

The entire Democrat establishment committed a fraud against the Constitution and the American electorate. They are still trying to run this fraud, in part by trying to use Biden's cancer diagnosis to shut down questions about just how far the conspiracy went. Everyone in line for the 2028 nomination is part of that conspiracy, with the sole exception of Dean Phillips, who got drummed out of the party for daring to challenge Biden when it actually mattered.

But Scher may not be all wrong either. As long as the Protection Racket Media continues to run interference for these corrupt Democrats, especially those in Biden's Cabinet, they have a chance to prevail and defraud us all over again. Will we let that happen?
