Imagine getting so flummoxed by a Republican as moderate and non-MAGA as Chris Sununu on a panel discussing reductions in government spending. That sounds like an ancient episode of a Frontline debate on a Saturday morning. Pipes should be puffing, tweed jackets donned, perhaps even with the elbow patches, horn-rimmed glasses firmly affixed in front of a two-camera set with black-and-white broadcasting. 

Instead ... this is CNN, and usually milquetoast anchor Anderson Cooper (via Twitchy):

COOPER: I'm not saying it's OK, don't put words in my mouth. Don't be a d*ck.

Emphasis mine. Also, let's emphasize that the other panel member in this discussion is Jeffrey Toobin, who's best known for literally whipping it out during a business meeting on Zoom. If Cooper wanted to discuss male genitalia, the comment should have been directed at his colleague Toobin, who for some reason CNN still employs. You just can't make this up.

Cooper later apologized, but that hardly matters. Why would a broadcast professional drop that into a policy debate? Sununu's retort may have been a little snide, but it wasn't at all personal. Cooper was trying to claim that the argument that FEMA spent $59 million on New York City luxury hotels was misleading, and Sununu embarrassed Cooper by pointing out that the money was spent to house illegal aliens rather than disaster victims. It's one of the reasons that FEMA began pleading poverty last year, and it had been policy to redirect disaster funds to illegal-alien housing since 2021. 

Cooper got embarrassed by Sununu getting the best of him in that exchange, and lashed out rather than admit it. 

This is bad enough on its own, but it's indicative of a total meltdown on the Left. In my previous post, we had fun with House Democrat Maxine Dexter, but she's not the only member of Congress losing her mind and her vocabulary over Donald Trump and their utter inability to cope with their sudden loss of popularity. It's just as bad of a problem in the Protection Racket Media, where 'reporters' and 'analysts' are getting exposed as propagandists for the bureaucratic state and Democrats in particular.

That's why both institutions face collapses in credibility and confidence. Gallup's indicators on trust in media have rapidly descended over the last few years as the Protection Racket Media made their gaslighting on behalf of a senile Joe Biden and the corrupt cabal of people around him. Other measures show the problem even worse for the media; a Populace survey designed to get the true level of private confidence in media put it in single digits last September, and that was before the meltdowns over Trump's impressive election victory. 

The mainstream media doesn't report; it takes sides, and then can't even defend that side in an argument. That's why Cooper resorted to a sexual insult -- because he has nothing left to offer. And everyone knows it. 

Democrats find themselves in a position nearly as dire. They are relentlessly sticking to positions on the fringe of the electorate, and a poll two weeks ago from Quinnipiac shows the effect:

A rational party would reassess their policy positions and communications to broaden their political appeal. They might also get new strategies to change from what has already proven ineffective with voters. Instead, Democrats are doubling down on La Résistance 2.0 and "f*** Trump," letting males compete in girl's sports, institutional race-based discrimination, and open borders.

Democrats have turned themselves into the Weirdo Party, and the Protection Racket Media has turned itself into the Weirdo Broadcasting System. And Americans are finally getting a clear and unfiltered look at both.
