RFK: Dems Tried to Destroy Me for Running Against Biden

When Robert F. Kennedy Jr talked about Democrat Party lawfare on Friday, he knew of what he spoke. In an interview with Tucker Carlson last night, RFK explains that Democrats had kept him in court for "the past three weeks" in lawsuits trying to force him off the ballots. The effort to defend his ballot access cost the Kennedy campaign $10 million, not just the time Kennedy had to spend in court rather than campaigning.

That's not the worst of Kennedy's experiences either, but let's start with this:

This isn't paranoia. The court cases are a matter of record. The Democrat Party has gone on a full-scale lawfare campaign not just against Kennedy but also Jill Stein and the Green Party, as well as Cornel West, the radical black professor attempting an even more quixotic independent campaign than RFK. Their attacks on West make RFK's ironic point about the Democrat Party's previous stance on civil rights even stronger. The GOP hasn't challenged these candidates, in part because they are more of a threat to Democrats -- although that wasn't true of Kennedy, especially after Joe Biden got pushed out of the race.

Why have Democrats become the Lawfare Party? Because they know that their candidates are likely to lose, Kennedy argues, and so they want to negate democracy by disqualifying anyone and everyone else. That clearly includes Trump, Kennedy notes:

“The Democratic Party today feels so unconfident about the candidates that it's putting forward, and it feels the only way it can win the election is by getting rid of the opponents,” Kennedy said.

“They're either using the courts against President Trump to lock him in jail and to embarrass, humiliate, and discredit him, or using the courts against me just to throw me off the ballot.”

However, the Democrats went even further to get Kennedy out of the race than just lawfare, Kennedy asserts next. They went on a campaign of personal destruction to hound him out of public life. The character assassination campaign got conducted by Lis Smith, Kennedy alleges, the former girlfriend of disgraced New York governor Eliot Spitzer:

Kennedy told Tucker, “I got calls from, for example, a guy that I met at an AA meeting 40 years ago, and he received a call. Most of my family members received calls, contacts, either text or telephone calls from people who said, 'I'm doing intelligence for the DNC, and we'd like to talk to you about Robert Kennedy.'"

Let's first reflect on the irony of using anyone connected to Spitzer as the QB of a character-assassination campaign. Assuming this is true, that's either a stroke of genius, a reflection of the Democrats' absolute moral bankruptcy, or both.

But is this paranoia? We report, you decide. Today, Axios is running a deeply stupid "exposé" about Kennedy cutting off a dead whale's head with a chainsaw. Last week, a number of media outlets picked up a story about Kennedy selling cocaine to other students at Harvard  ... fifty years ago or so. Kennedy himself related the story of a strange practical joke involving a road-kill bear carcass that he put in New York's Central Park, because as Kennedy explained at the beginning of the month, he'd heard that the story would soon come out. Last week, Radar Online catalogued dirt that had emerged before Kennedy hinted that he might withdraw from the race.

Does that sound like a coincidence? It could be. Or it could be that Democrats had an operation to dig up dirt and spread it to reporters they trusted to run it sans fingerprints. YMMV.

Finally, though, this shows just how poorly run the DNC and its strategy ops are. Especially after Biden's ouster from the ticket, Kennedy did more damage to the GOP than he did to Democrats. Had they just left him alone, Kennedy tells Carlson, it might have been enough to hand them the election:

“They didn't want me running ... It was not smart because I was actually helping the Democrats. And if they just let me stay in and they didn't run this campaign against me, they probably would win this election.”

Democrats spent the past year making an enemy out of a potential ally. Even putting all of the ethical, moral, and legal issues to the side, we are still left with two questions. First, do Democrats have so little faith in their candidates that they have to resort to this to win elections now? And second, should we put American security in the hands of strategic idiots such as these?
