Dems in Congress: We Don't Support Kamala's Nonsense Platform

So much for the one policy position Kamala Harris has taken publicly in this election. Jon Karl hardest hit!

Over a week ago, Harris tried rolling out an economic agenda for the campaign, which turned out to be mainly warmed-over Bidenomics. The only real change came in an emphasis on alleged price gouging -- or as Harris put it, "price gauging":

Harris' threat to pass federal price controls generating alarm and scoffing across the political spectrum. The Washington Post's editors called her proposal "populist gimmicks," while pointing out that Harris knew nothing about the famously low-margin, highly competitive market in groceries. WaPo columnist Catherine Rampell went even further on CNN, noting that price controls have failed whenever they have been tried, mainly in socialist and Marxist political systems such as "Venezuela, Argentina, the Soviet Union."

In short, Kamala Harris spewed economic nonsense, but don't just take my word for it, or Rampell's. Ask Democrats on Capitol Hill, who tell Politico that they have no intention of passing any federal price-control legislation. Furthermore, they're pretty sure that Harris isn't serious about it either -- but just wanted to virtue-signal on inflation:

Under pressure to defend Kamala Harris’ grocery price gouging plan, some Democratic lawmakers are delivering a quiet message to anxious allies: Don’t worry about the details. It’s never going to pass Congress.

The Harris campaign’s proposal, unveiled as part of her first big economic policy speech, has become a focal point for her presidential rival, Donald Trump, and fellow Republicans, who claim she’s pushing “communist price controls.” It has also alarmed food industry officials and even some left-of-center economists, who’ve warned such policies can hurt more than they help. ...

But such a bill has no chance of passing Congress anytime soon, even if Democrats win the White House and Congress this November, according to six Democratic lawmakers and five Democratic aides who were granted anonymity to discuss the matter candidly. These people said Democrats in Congress have privately been telling critics that this part of the Harris plan is not viable.

Rather, they’ve argued it’s a messaging tactic — a way to show that she understands food prices remain an economic burden for many Americans and to redirect voters’ anger about inflation to corporations, in a way that progressives in particular have cheered.

In the first place, it's a strange messaging tactic anyway, even as a virtue signal. Inflation erupted during Joe Biden's presidency, as a direct result of the economic policies that Harris not only has vocally supported but pledged in her "price gauging" speech to continue. That includes the "corporate greed" messaging that Harris wants to activate through her claim to support federal price controls on groceries, a theme that Biden himself has used since late 2021 when it became very clear that inflation was not "transitory" after all.

Voters want a change of direction on economic policy. Only the hard-Left progressives will read that as a call for more government intervention and central planning. They certainly don't want more warmed-over Bidenomics, not even with a boosted level of socialist signaling. Even Democrats in Congress don't want that, as Politico reported yesterday.

Donald Trump's supporters in 2016 argued to take him seriously but not literally. It seems that Democrats in Congress don't take Kamala Harris literally or seriously.

The problem with that approach was that this was the only policy position Harris has adopted since being anointed the Democrat nominee for president. "Price gauging" is literally her entire platform at the moment --  and Democrats are rejecting it

So what reason would anyone have to support Harris?*
