Clearing the tabs while Democrats clear their throats ...

Ed: WTF? Why would a prayer room have a gender assignment at all?

Though Democrats went on to cut out portions of the program — including speeches from Reps. GRACE MENG (N.Y.) and DEBBIE WASSERMAN SCHULTZ (Fla.) and a JAMES TAYLOR performance — Biden didn’t start his 48-minute speech until the clock hit 11:30 in the battleground states of Pennsylvania, Michigan and Georgia.

On one hand, the sloppy run-of-show felt entirely familiar to anyone who has attended Democratic news conferences on Capitol Hill, which tend to be governed by the old saw: “There is nothing left to be said, but not everyone has said it.”

On the other hand, it all felt “a little too on the nose,” as HuffPo’s Igor Bobic put it, with an unpopular president first forced out of office by party bosses then forced to deliver his big convention speech after the coveted prime-time hours, when many Americans had already gone to bed.

Ed: There's no way that wasn't intentional. Biden could just as easily have spoken in an earlier time slot, especially nearer prime-time on the East Coast, and let others speak after him. They could have rearranged that on the fly when the schedule clearly got away from them. Instead, Biden ended up talking after most Americans had gone to bed, and given the nature of his speech, Democrats are probably better off for it.

Harris "is as committed to our reproductive and civil rights as she is to taking on corporate greed. And she is working tirelessly to secure a ceasefire in Gaza and bringing hostages home," Ocasio-Cortez said to loud applause from the crowd in Chicago.

Ocasio-Cortez’s comments were a nod to Democratic voters who have increasingly turned against Israel in recent years. Inside and outside the convention, left-wing protesters railed against the Jewish state, calling on Harris to enact an arms embargo on Israel and pressure its leaders to abandon their battle against Hamas.

Ed: What exactly has Harris done at all on this, "tirelessly" or otherwise? She took one meeting with Benjamin Netanyahu after boycotting his speech to the joint session of Congress. Antony Blinken has done most of the engagement, and Biden the rest of it. This is as dumb as AOC's fake accent, which is ...

It’s been this new Harris campaign’s operating theory that it can put all of the veep’s past leftist foolishness behind her by never letting her be pinned down about the kinds of policies she would implement from the Oval Office.

That’s why nearly a month after becoming the presumptive nominee, her website still says nothing about what she hopes to accomplish as president, and why she’s yet to sit down for a single major interview or stand for a single press conference.

But AOC’s address — and Democrats’ celebration of it — has betrayed the party’s true direction with Harris at the helm.

Ed: It's not so much her speech at the convention but the choice slot the DNC assigned it. As Isaac Schorr points out, they had AOC on stage while Biden cooled his heels for another three hours.

"All the Green New Deal says is we're going to build new industry—new steel, new aluminum, new iron—new industry in America," said Khanna. "We're going to create new jobs in the places that were deindustrialized, and it's going to be good for the climate, and it's going to have less carbon footprint."

"That will be the vision under President Harris," he added. "No fossil fuel subsidies, a holding accountable of Big Oil, and a reindustrialization of this country that's going to make America lead as a climate champion in the world."

Vice President Kamala Harris’s presidential campaign slammed former President Donald Trump for giving a speech in a small town named Howell, which the campaign labeled “the KKK capital of Michigan.”

Alyssa Bradley, Harris’s Michigan communications director, put out a statement blasting Trump’s chosen venue. Bradley wrote, “This [Tuesday] event on ‘crime and safety’ isn’t a dog whistle from Trump — it’s a bullhorn.”
