If you’ve been following the Stacey Abrams mask saga, you can understand why the possibility exists. After receiving massive criticism for going maskless in the classroom while demanding masks for everyone else, the Abrams campaign played the race card against its critics. Abrams, who had retweeted the initial maskless pictures from the event, deleted the tweet while her campaign sent out the inflammatory response. (The school principal, who initially tweeted out the picture, deleted her entire account.)
Coincidentally or not, the job-forum site Daybook tweeted this opening out earlier today:
Job Opportunity!
Stacey Abrams Gubernatorial Campaign seeks a Social Media Platforms Director to manage the day-to-day posting and approval on the campaign’s social media accounts. @staceyabrams https://t.co/JbG6Q1zK5G

Following the link, we can see when this job got posted:
Is this a legit posting? According to Abrams’ campaign site, they are indeed accepting submissions for this job. The title and the description match exactly, in fact.
This leaves a couple of possibilities. One: the job opening happened over the weekend in the immediate wake of the masking meltdown at Team Abrams. It would be highly unusual for organizations to post a job opening on a Sunday, but according to Daybook, that’s when this went up on their site. If it had been an existing opening, why not wait until Monday for a posting?
Alternate possibility: Someone else posted this on Daybook yesterday using the Abrams campaign’s already-extant job posting. That seems less than likely, especially since it appears that Team Abrams makes consistent use of Daybook for their job openings. That’s not to say that it’s impossible, but the other openings on Daybook for Team Abrams had been posted earlier, and one would imagine that it takes some kind of secured login to create these postings. It seems unlikely to be a hack, in other words. (One last possibility: the position was open before but not updated on Daybook, and the meltdown reminded someone in Team Abrams to accelerate the job search.)
I’ve emailed Team Abrams for clarification on when this position opened, and why. If and when I get a response, I’ll update this post to include their answer. In the meantime, Sam Stein looks at another maskless Dem selfie and wonders why their staffs are botching the optics of this so badly:
Between this and Abrams, i’m beginning to wonder what kind of staff work is being done for Dems across the country. Doesn’t seem like that hard a task for a staffer to say, “you may want to keep that mask on/mask up before your photo/selfie" https://t.co/cFysG2euzk

At least Slotkin won’t play the race card. We hope, anyway.
