There aren't many good things to say about Hasan Piker.
I, for one, can think of two off the top of my head:
- The guy is ripped, which is more than I can say about myself at any time in my life.
- He inevitably says exactly what he thinks, and by extension, since Democrats love him, tells us what Democrats are really thinking or fantasizing about.
Obviously, you can't fairly attribute to every Democrat the opinions of Piker. Even I, who am not inclined to give Democrats much grace of late, don't think every Democrat can be held accountable for idiosyncratic opinions held by people they otherwise admire. It's possible to accept that somebody is flawed while still admiring them.
On the other hand, it IS fair to say that if a person is admired by a group, when they say or do something regularly, the group considers those thoughts or actions well within their Overton Window.
For instance, I think people who cheat on their spouse have done something awful, but I have friends who have done so in a moment of weakness. I forgive their failures because they are, generally speaking, good people who have made mistakes.
On the other hand, if somebody I knew casually treated their spouse as an accessory and cheated on them as a lifestyle, then I can be fairly criticized for endorsing the behavior of a cad. Remaining their friend is an endorsement of the behavior because it is inextricably bound to their character.
We are often told by Democrats that they aren't endorsing Piker's occasional outbursts about killing people, destroying America, loving mass murderers, and wishing all Capitalists would die in torturous ways; they admire him and flock to the candidates he endorses and campaigns for despite his occasional peccadillos, since they are anomalies.

Only they aren't anomalies, just as all those celebrities who muse about Luigi Mangione being on the right track aren't saying anything that is unacceptable to utter among liberals. Time and again, we see liberals embracing the worst sort of people, often with the excuse that they deplore this or that particular thing they said or did.
"I don't approve of violence, but..."
The thing is, if you keep approving of violence, or calls to violence, or applaud the results of that violence, you actually are approving the violence as well. Those five words in front of the "but" are throat-clearing and mean nothing.
Hasan Piker is the "It" guy right now among Democrats. The New York Times has handed over its Opinion Page to him many times; politicians have campaigned with him and regularly appeared on his podcast. They refuse to condemn him, talking about a "Big Tent." They endorse his ideas while avoiding his rhetoric, using him as the tip of the spear that they have grasped to kill us.
Piker may be the arrowhead, but they are firing the arrows. They are inseparable.
It's no different in my mind than the people who say they believe that abortion at 9 months is murder, but then vote for Maura Healy. There is a transitive property at work here: you are complicit in the murders you claim to condemn.
Liberals will assure us that all white people alive today, whether descended from slaveholders or not, are complicit in an institution that died over 150 years ago, even though we genuinely deplore it and had nothing to do with it. Yet the same people refuse to take responsibility for applauding, today, calls for massive political violence, or being happy when it arrives.
They embrace people calling for violence. The violence comes. They applaud the violence. And then they are appalled when we call them on it.
Yesterday I wrote about a poll of liberals by liberals that showed that a plurality of Democrats would applaud, or at least be fine with, a military coup to get rid of Trump. A third would actually approve of murdering Trump, and others would have mixed feelings. A minority would be appalled.
This is who they are, even if Piker is their proxy. They have embraced him, or, at the very least, in the "moderates'" case, accepted his views as well within the Overton Window.
Which is ironic, because Piker hasn't accepted the "moderates." He admits he wants them in camps. He wants a "cultural revolution," and not just aimed at you and me. He's a Maoist and wants mind control, as all totalitarians do.
We often say that every accusation is an admission when it comes to liberals, and it's a catchy phrase that can be unfair. The kernel of truth is that accusations reveal the bounds of what a person considers plausible behavior, but imagining dark things doesn't mean we want them to happen.
But people really ARE telling on themselves when they actively embrace evil. It doesn't matter what their excuse is — evil people will often justify what they are doing as being for the greater good.
Piker is clear about what he wants, and Democrats keep telling us he belongs in their "Big Tent." Take them seriously, and ask whether you want Piker to be next to somebody in power and giving them advice.
