I would say that Jake Tapper's credibility keeps taking hits, but by now we know that, for the people who still trust Mr. Tapper, his credibility is as bulletproof as that of Islamists with Queers for Palestine.
Nothing will dent his credibility with people who refuse to acknowledge the reality that he is just a hack.
Last year, Tapper took a lot of justified flak for admitting that he knew that Joe Biden was hardly sharp as a tack, despite his willingness to promote that falsehood countless times on air to his viewers. He wrote a book outlining just how compromised Biden's mental capacity was, the fact that this was common knowledge, and placing the blame for the political disaster the Democrats suffered in the 2024 election.

Far from taking his lumps for participating in the massive conspiracy to defraud the American people and endanger the entire country, Tapper adopted an oracular tone and preened about his superior knowledge, apparently not realizing that he was exposing his own culpability.

March 27 (Daily Show): "The mortality of this is about 10x the flu. It's at least 1%."
He wrote 0.2-0.3% in his journal — then told the public, over and over, a number 3 to 5 times higher.
This year we are learning from the voluminous Anthony Fauci diaries that he conspired with Fauci to deceive the American people about COVID and suppress any debate about all the most important issues surrounding the emergence of the virus and how best to deal with it, coordinating with Fauci to ensure that his control over The Narrative™ remained strong even when it was obviously unwarranted.

They had several dinners together, and Fauci even noted that Tapper was openly hostile to Trump in private while pretending to be objective in public. Tapper clearly wanted to undermine Trump, said so to Fauci, and was happy to coordinate with Fauci to undermine Trump's authority as president.

Of course, anybody familiar with the Washington (and, frankly, elsewhere) media scene knows that they pick favorites based on their political leanings and often coordinate with their "allies," but it's pretty rare that the truth is laid quite so bare as Fauci's diary does. Fauci and Tapper were frequently in touch, and since Fauci never expected his diary to be made public, he's pretty open about what his thoughts were and who he was conspiring with.

The diary was recovered from government computers, despite Fauci trying to systematically purge it from them. Computer forensics can be a wonderful thing, especially when technological neophytes are trying to hide things. Hillary Clinton at least knew to wipe all the evidence and, when possible, destroy the hardware. Fauci couldn't do that because he didn't control the computers, so instead he did his best to wipe away government documents that were legally required to be preserved.

Fauci, in his diary, was quite open about the failures of the vaccine and social distancing measures, just as he revealed that 10 out of 12 people on the call where he conspired with the authors of the "Proximal Origins" paper to spread the lie that the virus most certainly came from nature and spread to humans at the Wuhan Wet Market. He suspected the former was false and knew the latter was, as did almost everybody on that call.
While Tapper may not have known those details, he most certainly knew that Fauci was deceiving the American people, and himself conspired with Fauci to hide that fact.

CNN is a bit worried about this new set of revelations, and because its viewers have a psychological need to believe what they are told on CNN, because the alternative is to admit that their carefully constructed Truman Show is based on lies, all they feel the need to do is assert that Tapper and his ilk will cover the news without fear or favor.

Anthony Fauci is the worst villain of this self-satisfied crowd driven by fame and money, not the right thing to do, but he is hardly the only villain. Deborah Birx admitted in her own book that she lied to the president, conspired with Vice President Pence and others to subvert his policies, and traveled the country to spread lies to public officials. She has never faced any consequences for that, and remains well respected because...Trump. Of course she subverted Trump. Who wouldn't?

As usual, though, the most important villain in the rogue's gallery is the media, because they made The Narrative™ stick in people's minds and suppressed dissenting voices. Fauci's perfidy was enabled by them most of all, because the president knew by the end of April that he was being lied to, but felt he could do little about it. Fauci knew it too.

Jake Tapper was a key part of the conspiracy, as were reporters at prestige media outlets like The New York Times. It was only with their help that he could suppress those who were making arguments that were far better and more grounded in reality than Fauci's narrative.

If the media were doing what we all think their job is—uncovering the truth and letting diverse thinkers share their opinions—Fauci would have had far less power to destroy lives and ultimately kill people and destroy lives.
Tapper is near the top of the list of villains in this story. And, like so many of the villains, will come out smelling like a rose.
