Plenty of well-earned criticism has been directed at “Squad” members for their seeming indifference to the terrorist attacks on Israel. First, they were silent, then they came out with mealymouthed statements that amounted to “bothsidesism.”
But Rashida Tlaib has received the lion’s share of the criticism, and for good reason. When asked directly about whether she disapproved of the worst atrocities committed by Hamas terrorists against civilians, she couldn’t even muster a simple “beheading babies is not a good thing” comment.
Fox reporter Bill Melugin, who covers the border beat, reminded us that Tlaib is not always so phlegmatic when it comes to expressing emotion. Back in 2019 she engaged in the same sort of performative emoting that seems to be a signature of The Squad: crying for the little ones who are brought to the border.
In 2019, Rep. Rashida Tlaib got emotional at a hearing on migrant children being separated from their parents at the border, & called it “traumatic” and “inhumane”.
Today, she had no comment, and no reaction when asked about Israeli children being beheaded by Hamas terrorists. https://t.co/nb0M1bXReQ pic.twitter.com/bU3EUERZSA

It’s quite the contrast.
Now I share a concern for the children who are being used as political props and moral shields for the people trying to illegally cross the southern border and their supporters–it is, after all, the adults who are trying to break the law who put them in danger–I am struck by how indifferent Tlaib is to the intentional infliction of horrors including rape, murder, burning alive, and other atrocities being committed by her fellow Palestinians.
As usual, it isn’t what is being done to a victim, but who is doing the victimizing that matters to these moral midgets.
Tlaib still today, despite clearly showing support for the war that the Palestinians have started against Israel, flies the Palestinian flag outside her office door. Ironically she also flies the rainbow flag, which probably wouldn’t be welcome in a future Palestine.
Her Democrat colleagues are split on the Squad’s bothsidesism. Some have condemned it, while others are just fine with it, including some in House leadership.
Steny Hoyer’s reaction to Rashida Tlaib still keeping the Palestinian flag outside her office: “I fly a Danish flag at my house”
— Benny Johnson (@bennyjohnson) October 11, 2023
Yep. Denmark, too, is run by terrorists apparently.
Pick a side, Steny. Or, rather, we know what side you have picked.
Notice that Hoyer himself has two flags displayed on his lapel–the American and the Ukrainian. Now I support Ukraine kicking Russia’s ass out of its territory, but it bugs me that Hoyer’s concern for borders is so…situational.
Any caucus will have some extremist members, and it is difficult for leaders to herd all the cats. Just look at the Republicans right now and their troubles. So while I dislike Hoyer and his politics, I get why he wouldn’t be full-throated in condemning Tlaib.
But then again, we are talking about rape, murder, and other atrocities. I think he could have suggested she take down that flag. Pretty sure nobody is flying a Russian flag at the Capitol.
The Democrats are in a pickle because a significant number of their members are genuine antisemites, and a significant fraction of their base is as well. BLM got full-throated support from the Democrats, and they are Jew-haters. The DSA is also all-in for atrocities, and yet only one DSA-supported member has renounced them so far as I know.
Tlaib has shown where her loyalties lie, and it isn’t with the civilized West.
