Welcome back to our VIP video series "Off the Beaten Path," featuring my friend Christian Toto of Hollywood in Toto! Christian and I start off our week by discussing stories and ideas that may fly under our radar, in culture, politics, sports, and more. Plus, Christian previews his latest podcast at HiT.
Tonight's the election, but this morning, Christian and Ed got together to talk about culture and entertainment. Ed wore his red shirt for Election Day, and later in the show, explained what it might mean.
Meanwhile, the two discussed the nature of apologies and forgiveness. After "Pamper Baby" Isa Casahuga smirked through a poem at a TPUSA event to celebrate the assassination of Charlie Kirk, she got an avalanche of public shaming. Casahuga offered a public apology; are we required to accept it? Gutfeld's Tyrus offered a contrary take to the initial reaction, one well worth considering. Christian and Ed discuss various public shamings, apologies, and second chances – or the lack thereof.
And why are people going after Martha Stewart? Again? Well, this time she may have earned it, but just don't tell James Comey. Again. Meanwhile, a few celebrities have decided to weigh in on politics. Dustin Hoffman decided to weigh in on a 57-year-old gripe about The Graduate, mystifying both of us.
Finally, we take a look at this year's slate for Kennedy Center Honors, along with the controversies surrounding it. Why did it take so long to honor David Mamet? Christian and I have our suspicions, but this year's honorees are very worthy indeed. We finish up with a couple of movie recommendations and a potential wardrobe choice for tonight.
